Hello.
I am in Germany. I am restoring a 1969 Satellite. This car was completely in parts. Now I am on my way to assemble it. Engine and transmission are already overhauled.
Now I have one problem. If I turn the neutral switch all the way in the tranny case I cannot shift to D. The lever will only go from P in R and N. Then it's kind of locked. It feels like the neutral switch is blocking the shift lever. If I take the switch out it locks fine to me. It will go easily in and out.
When the switch is not mounted, the shifting lever works fine in all Modes (P, R, N, D, 1,2).
Is here an expert who knows about such problem?
Maybe the switch goes in to deep?
I have no more ideas...

You need to verify that the neutral safety switch is correct for your year transmission. 440'

Good photo above.

also the end of the switch is spring loaded, can you push it in by hand? Or is it stuck? And do you have a gasket on the switch that could space it out a hair more.

OK, good picture. I will verify which lever is in my transmission. Then I will come back to you.
Seems to me the previous owner had a problem with the switch too. There are already 2 gaskets mounted.

Some aftermarket switches are known to be too long.

OK the spring in the switch works easily. I can push it by hand.
My switch does more look like the golden one in the picture above. So what can I do?
Just put a washer or a shim under the switch?
