1st story
My father-in-law was a retired MSgt from the USAF. He was a big gruff straight shooter that never met a stranger. They lived in San Antonio and we lived in Ft Worth. They were coming up for a visit one time. He always liked to drive in the still dark early hours of the morning so they were the only ones on a stretch of 281 headed north one morning. He wasn't really paying much attention to his speed. All of the sudden he noticed a vehicle on his tail, and shortly the lights came on. He pulled over and the trooper pulled over behind him.
Jim puts his truck in park, jumps out and walks back to the cruiser. The officer hadn't gotten out yet but had his window down. Jim walks up and sticks his hand in the window, says "Howdy officer, I'm Jim Blackwell from San Antonio, good to meet you! What can I do for you?" The officer shakes his hand and says "Mr Blackwell you were driving a little fast". Jim says " Thank you for letting me know, I'll slow it down! You have a good day now!" walks back to his truck, hops in, and drives off with the officer still sitting there.
Now I'm picturing two things, one is this officer sitting there watching this truck drive away wondering what the hell just happened... and I'm picturing him together with his buddies telling them "so this guy tells me he'll slow it down and before I can say anything else he just turns around, walks off, and drives away. I didn't know what the hell just happened. Who does that?"
2nd story
I had an 06 GTO as my daily driver. It had quite a few mods, two of which were straight exhaust and the biggest cam I could put in that LS2 without changing the heads. It sounded really good. So I'm driving home one afternoon heading out 30 west from Ft Worth. I notice a state trooper coming up beside me. I double check my speed, only doing 60, so I'm good, nothing to worry about. Then I see him slow down and drop back, and he moves over behind me. Shortly the lights come on. I'm thinking "what was I doing? I know I wasn't speeding, why is he pulling me over?"
So we both pull over. I leave the car running and it's got that lope going and is rocking sitting there, I've got my license and insurance out, and I'm waiting on him to come up. He gets out of the cruiser and slowly starts walking up to my car. When he gets to the back of the driver's side quarter panel he stops and just stands there for a minute. Then he puts his hand out and lays it on the quarter panel, and stands there for a minute or two longer. Then he slowly walks on up to the window, leans down and says "So what you got in this thing? It sounds awesome!" We spent the next 5 minutes talking about my car and his Mustang. Then he tells me to have a good day, gets in his cruiser, and drives off. And I sat there wondering "what the hell just happened?"
