Hey guys, I am in the process of putting back together a 73 Satellite for my son and need to know which trunk seal. I orderd a kit for weatherstripping and even told the folks I heard there were issues. they said nope, you need the "d" shaped seal. Well, we glued it down and there is no way that trukn is closing. Do I need the older seal? any input would be appreciated.

I have a problem with my 73 RR as well - the trunk moulding seems too high

any comments ?

Yep, it is. i called Metro today and they are sending me the other more flat seal. Said I needed the one that a 73 duster and a bunch of other Mopars use. We will see when it gets here. It is a lot flatter.

PM me with the results and a part number if possible ?

Metro ?

Ralph

Yeah it is metro and I will as soon as it gets here.

RonP, did you ever get the new trunk seal - would like to have the number please.
thanks ralph

The factory did change the trunk seal mid-year 72' on the b-body from a solid cross-sectional lip seal to a single chambered "D" shaped seal. I ran into the same problem trying to use the so-called reproduction "D" shaped seal, having two chambers, Metro's application tables claim it to be correct for 72' and up. Simply won't compress enough to allow the trunk to close. Ended up using the reproduction lip seal, or flat seal, the manufacture said was for 71' and earlier b-body.

Who did you buy it from and what # was it.

I have two trunk seals so far that does not work.

Can you help me out ?

thanks Ralph

Yep, they sent me a new trunk seal and it worked just fine. it is the earlier type. I can post the exact part number later when i get home from work.

Now I am worried as I have ordered the Metro Moulded 56B-18 seal for my '73 Satellite. Car is in paint right now and I can not check the fit yet.

bhamilton,

I would bet you will need the other. the bad part for me was I actually glued down the D-shaped 56B seal and then tried closing the trunk. What a mess and I was not happy. there is no way that trunk could have ever closed.

Metro was super about it. The customer service lady sent a new one right out free of charge. She said it wasn't the first time and they might need to consider changing the info for that seal. I would do all I could to hold it in place with something other than the adhesive to check fit before gluing it.

the 64a seal is fine. Even it will keep the runk a little high, but I took a friends advice and closed the trunk and I have actually watched the trunk align better each week as the seal relaxes some. It is almost perfect now with a nice tight seal.

wish the roofrails were the same. They are crap so far in my opinion.

Well, you are correct. I went out and looked and my car does need the TK64A-18 seal.

So, it looks like I have a brand new unused Metro Moulded TK56B-18 trunk seal if anyone is needing one.
