My wife is the proud owner of a 1965 Coronet 500 Coupe that her father bought new, and a 1965 Coronet 500 Convertible that he picked up in the early 1970s.

The coupe has the 273 V8 with the automatic transmission. She went with her father to pick it up from the dealership and she drove it through college. It has been repainted a couple of times, but everything else is original.

The convertible is a beautiful car, but it is not factory original. The fender tag indicates that it came from the factory with a 426 Street Wedge 4-speed package, but the engine was replaced with a 225 automatic before her dad bought the car. We suppose it's the typical "blew the engine" story. Whoever did the conversion did it properly and the car drives well with the slant 6, but it sure would be nice to have the Street Wedge under the hood.

The fender tag on the convertible tells me this:
Model: W45 = 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible
Scheduled production date: June 23, 1965
Engine: 80 = 365 HP 426S with 4bbl carburetor
Transmission: 363 = 4-speed A-833
Interior: P4B = Vinyl front bucket seats, rear bench. Blue.
Exterior: CC1 = Blue with blue top. Monotone scheme.
Accessories: Model 405 heater, model 441 AM radio, backup lights

I hope to one day find the engine, transmission, and clutch parts to bring the convertible back to it's factory configuration.

It is rare to hear of one car kept in the family all of these years but two is even more incredible. Welcome and cool cars.

Cool story, sounds like a Mopar family/couple...
IMO you rarely "ever" here a story about someone
replacing a 426 Street Wedge & 4 speed, with a slant 6 & an Auto...
Usually it's the other way around...

welcome to FBBO from NorCal

good luck with your/your wife's quest

welcome to FBBO cool story hope you get the 426 and 4 speed back in that drop top

Welcome, great story about the cars. It's great the your wife drove it through college and that it's been kept in the family. Show us some pics when you have a chance.
