MoonRunners 1975. They've got The Boar's Nest, Uncle Jesse, Waylon Jennings as the narrator and singing. Their race car is named Traveller after General Lee's horse. The main character uses a bow and arrow like Luke.

Maybe everyone knew this but I never heard it.

Yes. Absolutely.
The Sheriff was Rosco Coltrane, "Jake" was their version of Boss Hogg. The Hague boys were racers, they moved the moonshine.
When it was considered for a TV show, they softened up everything to appeal to a TV audience. No whores, The bad guys were made to be silly and inept, Uncle Jessie didn't make moonshine anymore and the "Duke boys" didn't transport it.

It's on youtube now. I knew about The Dukes but I was out drinking beer and chasing women when it aired.

I always wanted to make a knock-off movie called The Dukes Of Harvard. Southern boy rebels in Cambridge' s finest.

It's stardard fare for all southern boys shine runner stuff. Those were always called B movies so maybe this is a B+. I recognized the two main actors. One was James Mitchum who looks a heck of a lot like his dad Robert Mitchum. This movie was 1975. I think DOH started in 1979. Not as good as Burt in White Lightning.

Because my car and the Dukes is a '69 I have collected a lot of Dukes stuff.

wow, cool! I had not heard of that movie. Worth watching?
Remember the term "Manage expectations" ?
If you watch it and only think of it as a historical piece that laid the foundation for The Dukes of Hazzard, you will enjoy it more.
Many movies of the past are very slow moving and poorly lighted. This movie is that way. If you don't expect it to feel like a movie made from 2000 to present, you may not be disappointed.

I never heard of those 2 movies either. I’ll check them out. My Ukrainian friends from Hafford Saskatchewan Canada had T shirts made up with the General Lee and the saying The Ukes of Hafford. Kim

I noticed a similarity between the Dukes and the Petty family.

Back in the day, I was told "Return To Macon County" was the inspiration.

It also has quite a few similarities.

The bad guys were made to be silly and inept
James Best did an interview where he said his character started out mean, he didn't like it, so he changed it up so he wasn't cruel, just inept.
