Hi all. I have a ‘73 charger with a bb400. Looking to see if I can get a different waterpump other than the stock one I have. Meaning a new housing and all. I’m not running a/c. Just p/s and alt. Also…I pic, I can’t get the tube off to get bracket off. lol.

That will come out. What I would do is clan the threads with a wire brush. Soak it good with a rust penetrating oil for a few days. Then put some good heat on the cast iron. Pipe wrench to twist off.

Might not be easy, but guarantee I would get it off.

That is worth a try. I use a cut off and cut the tube close to the base as possible. Then use a die grinder with carbide tip and grind a slot inside the tube until I can cave the tube sides in. Being careful of the threads. If you do not intend to reuse the housing, just cut it.

When you get the housing thing sorted out, get a Flowkooler water pump. Got one on my 383, fits the stock pump housing. Works great !

Ok cool. I was gonna get a new housing but seems they are few and far between. Is the tube a nessasary part to have on? If I can’t get it off what do I do about the alt bracket? This is tricky. lol

Bird 426 is correct. If my suggestion doesn't work, grind a slot inside the tube but stay away from the threads. Use a chisel to knock the threads out once the grove is made.

Me personally it would go into my mill and I would mill it then use a chisel.

440 source has the housing, it’s $150 but it’s aluminum and a very nice piece.

You can get it out. I have had several and did it that way. It's common for them to be frozen.
