Decided to get some hits in at Mid Michigan before the GLSSA races Sat/Sunday. Good payout so what the heck. 70 years old, check. No trans brake, check, 10.5 tires, check. No air shift, check. Managed 4 rds before my .028 R/T was usless against a .019 pac. Had a great time . Setting on a .009 R/T for Q2 in S/S.

Fun always outlasts the MON-ey.

Reminds me of my May 12, 2024 post, modified for this thread:

Somewhere in America a racer comes off the track, pulls into his double-stack trailer, goes into his motorhome to pour a glass of Chardonnay and complain to his buddies about the high cost of racing. At the same time @dvw comes off the track, pulls onto his flatbed trailer, then cracks a beer and sits on his tailgate and tells his buddies what a grand day he had.

Glad to hear you're still putting it down - an inspiration to us all!

Same here!! I didn't get an enclosed trailer until after I quit racing lol. Well, it was to be used mainly as a storage building when I moved out of the storage building I had. So far it's paid for itself 3 times over and planning on selling it hopefully this year. The weather is starting to take it's toll plus it's time to get rid of everything in it which isn't much these days.

Anyways, when I was racing, I made my car consistent even if the weather changed some. The carbs being fat helped with that. That meant that the was always something left on the table with the ET. Wasn't interested in getting every last ounce out it like most of my buddies were and they were hardly ever consistent. They were always tinkering with the tune at the track and checking the weather with their 'weather stations' etc. I liked to relax between rounds. If my RT was off then I'd yell at myself just before staging and that usually helped. Drank a 1/2 of Jolt Cola one night in the staging lanes and cut a dang good light. My buds all liked to talk smack but didn't care for any of that mess. My smack was when it was time to stage.

Its always rewarding when you can go to the track on a working man's budget vs. Someone who has a endless supply of money.

Went 4 rds today as well. Was worried my .027-.031 lights weren't good enough. Pushed the tree went -.011red. Good news is my son took the same guy out in the final. Just like last year. His first weekend out racing. He fought tire spin but got it done when he needed to. We swapped carbs this week along with the lighter hood and wheels. Went from running 9.80s last year to low 9.60s. He brought home over $3k in cash and prizes. I do have an enclosed trailer that I traded labor for

Hey I went a couple rounds last night if you count runner up in the buy back round.
I had mixed feelings about the buy backs....I feel that if I beat you once, I shouldn't have to try and do it again. Luckily, never had to run someone twice lol

Quaker does it right, buybacks race each other first.

I beat a guy first round last year. I went out before the final, but that guy bought back in and won it.

I made it down to cars today. Scott went to the final again against the same car as Saturday. Today he was R/U. His car is flyin. Low 9.60s in 1.084 correction air. That's 8.4% lower than dyno air
