Ny is not a good place to look for restoration candidates. They dont call it the "rust belt" for no reason. On these older, neglected cars by the time you have surface rust, the pans and frame typically are in poor shape.
Of course it all depends on the depth of your wallet and expertise. I would not buy one without having seen it in person.

Lay YOUR eyes on any car before you buy, or find someone close to the area the car is in to do it for you.

Yep you need eyes on it.I sold my 74-318 challenger 4 years ago for 11.5 and it was a nice driver. Complete and everything worked.

Judging from the pics either the floor pans have been worked on or the matting is hiding rust.
Underneath pics would tell the tale.
Maybe the foks on FEBO know more.

No worth that IMO, based on what you have said and the pictures it would have to be less that $10K (a lot less if I was buying).

Run away !
Firstly not a wanted year! Second it's the small motor nothing fancy! And 3rd screw that ! I got my charger from new york it was a rusty pile of trash under it's very nice and str8 paint ! I figured I'd need to strip and repaint then do my modes boy was I wrong it needed everything replaced except the window channel s and roof!
You can find better for cheaper check out dvap.com there by you and always have sweet projects kicking around
They had a rusty free 73 charger there once wanted $5000 for it everything was there I couldn't afford it and wish to this day I bought it ! Rust sucks interior and eng are easy !

About 2 years ago I picked up a 72 Challenger with a 340 slapstick (motor was out of the car but included in sale). Had some issues but came with most of the parts to replace what was bad. Was a southern car and purchased in Alabama. Very little rust. Parts I needed were purchased for less than $500. Cost of that car was on 7K so I guess I would keep looking or talk them way down. Looks like the car had a vinyl roof and that alone can cause a boatload of problems. If you decide to go for this car keep in mind that the "little" 318 can easily be built to turn over 400 dyno horses but I don't know how the 904 would handle that.

i see what you guys mean. Glad i asked ahead of time. yeah the rust is my biggest headache that i dont want to deal with. thanks for all the pointers..

With 2800 miles between you, why would you even consider this car? What is so unique about it? There are probably 20 or more between CA and NY if you broaden your search.

There are probably twenty in California...

Good luck with your search ! It might take a little longer, but you will find something better.
