As of right now mine was back in 1982, I was a young man of 17 and had borrowed my brothers 72 Cuda ( 440 HP 12.1 Comp - Comp Cam 4 speed etc...). I was on my way home after courting a young lady around Valdosta Ga, it was about 12:30 am and I was all alone on a road that had a stretch of almost a pure straight away for about 10 miles. I was cruizing about 65-70 mph when a came up on a Camaro Z28 I didn't even blink, the road was clear so I just ziped right on by. A few seconds later this cat was right on my *** and pulled right up beside me and was gossing it, well we all know what that means..... I down shifted to 3rd dumped at least 1/4 tank of gas into that Thermoquad and felt the back tires break loose a bit and the last I ever saw of this cat was a small very dim glow of his headights in the rear view. :icon_fU:

Mine was also back about 1982. I was riding shotgun in my friend's 1971 Satellite Sebring Plus, going down 103rd Street in Jacksonville, FL. His car was a 318 auto, but he had warmed it up a little. We had three guys in a new 3rd generation Mustang pull up next to us, and we did some mild racing from light to light. The Mustang beat the Satellite through two lights, but my friend made better use of the accelerator to beat them through the third. We were about to turn on to Blanding Blvd when the Mustang driver yelled over and said "if you guys really want to race, bring your Plymouth over to Wells Road tonight at 10:00." My friend yelled back that we'ld be there.

Right at 10:00, my friend shows up at Wells Road (a popular late-night drag racing spot back in the day), in "his Plymouth" as promised. The problem for the Mustang guys was my friend had two Plymouths: the 71 Satellite and a 440 Superbird! He comes rolling up in the 'Bird, and the Mustang guys start yelling "that's not your Plymouth!", and he replied "yes it is!" Then they said "that's not the car you were in earlier!", and he said "you said bring my Plymouth and I did, so let's race."

He smoked those Mustang guys, and every other car that night. The closest race was an early 60's vette, but by then Clay was down to an almost empty gas tank and was light enough to just beat the vette across the finish. Those Mustang guys were still fuming when the bench racing started, but I hope they learned they better specify which Plymouth to bring to any future races. :)

I guess '82 was a good year for this stuff - same for me. I was in tech school at the time - in the auto mechanics program. We had a younger guy in there who liked to talk trash about his 327 El Camino. LOL. He knew he could never beat my 6pak '70 GTX. But one day I had my buddy's '70 Challenger RT in the shop. It was a 340 4-speed, and I think we had a 4.30 in the rear that day. I had it in there to set the dual points for him. On my way home, this guy in the El Camino comes up next to me. LOL - one slap down into 2nd and by the time I was back in 3rd he was fading in my mirror. I think he crapped his pants.

I was I think 6-7 years old in 1965-66 when I saw the 1st of many AA/Fuel Altered's at Fremont Race Way & many other west coast tracks, with my step father, that car the Bantam's with a blown fuel Hemi's "Pure Heaven" & "Pure Hell" my favorite is the 23 T Ford "Nanook of the North", candy green, gold leaf lettering, with pearl white stripes & orange pinstripping, the glowing 6'+ long flames out the pipes at night, thundering load a$$ noise, was the $hit for me as a kid, I ended up building a replica of it running methanol, 11-12 years latter... My second best Mopar moment was when my parents bought a brand new 68 Sport Satellite 383ci 4bbl 4spd, dark green with white vinyl top & interior, mom's grocery get'er...LOL.. Which ended up being my 3rd or 4th car much latter on...

Olds 442 vs Coronet R/T

One of my favorites would have been in 78 or 79. I was driving the 67 R/T in my avatar as my daily driver then. I worked with a guy who caught a ride to work every morning with his buddy in a 68 Olds 442. (One of those with the "bumble bee stripe" across the hood and front fenders.) He said his buddy wanted to show up my Dodge. One morning very early, He was coming down the interstate just as I was getting on at my exit. Got beside my R/T, and my buddy yelled he wanted us to hook up. I said OK, and we slowed down to run from a 25 MPH roll. My buddy in the Olds gave the signal and we punched them together. I watched the driver row through the gears and knew he was in fourth. My 440 was still winding up in third, neck and neck with him. Came time to shift, I blew the horn and waved as I hit 4th. Watched him fade back for a while, then backed off with my speedo reading 125. When we got to work, my buddy said I really pissed the guy off with the wave. LOL The Olds driver did not speak to me for about 25 years. (And that was probably only because he became my mail man, never did say anymore about my car.)

For me it would have to be breaking into the 10's last year. Ron

Mine was about 10 years ago when I test drove my Bee for the first time. It was my first time driving a big block anything and the s*** eating grin I had on my face as I gunned it up a highway on ramp, tires squealing and engine roaring, has never really gone away.

It was 1971 and I had just finished building my 66 Plymouth Valiant. It had a balanced 340, bored .030, cammed up with a LD340 intake, Holley 780, headers. 727 with a Winters valve body, 3500 converter and Comp shifter. A 8 3/4 with 4.56 gears and springs out of a 68 Dart.

Worked for weeks making sure everything was right and it ran just perfect. The first trip was to Pittsburgh International Drag way where I unloaded the car and went through my first tech inspection and was placed in "E Experimental Stock" Class. Went back to the pits and checked everything before time trials. I got 3 runs in and the best was a 12.98 and being that I had never raced at a strip I didn't know what to expect.

My first race was against an early Mustang and I won out of the hole, he just couldn't catch me. It was a long evening but when it was all said and done I had raced 18 times with the last one being against a Safari SW with a 455. I came back into the pits not even knowing that I had won that night and that the last 6 cars I raced were from the other classes. I will never forget that night for as long as I live.

mine was around 1992 or so.came to a light here in vegas in my 68 charger(blown 440,alum heads, spool, manual 727,the works!)up pulls a 67 gto 455 in street race trim.looked nice!the passenger sais to me"wanna race?"i said"sure why not."light turns green,we hit it,and as usual my 68 fries the tires and kicks the rear out sideways,so i am pointing at there car!well,he beats me to the next light by about a fender,my charger sideways the whole time!we hit the brakes, charger straightens out and we stop.i say to the pass,"well looks like you beet me!"and he replies,"i dont think so man."pulled into a gas station with them and became long time friends with the driver, troy.must have laughed for a week about the look on the passengers face.still makes me laugh to this day.

67coronet you have any photos of the 68 Charger w/blown 440 ?, the 68 is my absolute favorite year bar none...

have to take a look into my archives.never been a big picture taker.kinda sad considering how many nice cars i have had.68 charger is also my fav car of all time!looked alot like the charger from fast and furious movie, was primer black though.rolled that car on mount charleston, thanx to black ice, just outside of vegas.come to think of it,accident was alot like the one in the movie, never thought of that before.

My favorite mopar moment would have to be, buying my first mopar,(1976). A 1971 dodge charger RT 440 mag. 4speed. It was Hemi orange, My dad came with me. The look on his face, then trying to talk me out of it. Then finally agreeing to the purchase. I didn't even know how to drive a stick yet.. He drove it home for me..Then he had to teach me how to drive a stick shift... I still remember jerking, stalling the car up & down the block until I got it... That long look, shaking his head, as a drove away for the first time...

My favorite mopar moment was or is the second Mopar i bought, My cousin was working at the same place i was and i told him i needed to buy a new car, mine was just about history, i rode my Suzuki most of the time but my cousin told me he would sell me his car but he wanted $800.00 bucks for it and i just didn't have that kind of cash so he said he would take monthly payments which settled the thing. It was a 69 RR with roughly a little under 25,000 miles on it and it was just about 5 years old when i got it, nothing fancy about it as far as tires and chrome wheels, all the stock looks it had. It was green with black interior, the air cleaner said Super Commando on it and i found out it was super alright, had a 4-speed in it and had a blast, long story short i sold it a few years later for 8oo dollars and then bought a 70 RR from the same cousin, if you call trading a Suzuki the same, because thats what i did traded the bike for it, It was a beautiful car with chrome wheels and all but no power with a 318 4-speed.. I wreaked it doing something i shouldn't have been doing. I did love my first Mopar, the 67 Charger, but these two and the 68 i got a few years later was my favorite, got the 68 for 200 bucks it was in pretty poor shape though..

I can relate

I can relate, :iamwithstupid: I was not a big photo guy either, :director2: I wish I took tons of photos, back in the day, but unfortunately I never did... I just recently started using a digital cheapo camera, given to me by my nephew...

My favorite moment has to be when I bought my first new mopar back in January of 1969.I went to Grand Spaulding Dodge for a second time with my grand mother to pick-up my new 1968 hemi Charger, She had to sign. I was only 17. We got all thru the paper work and when we left in the Hemi I climbed all over the go pedal I remember her saying my god what did I just do. I think today and wonder if she only knew.

Several in that first 70 RoadRunner, but probably my favourite outside of getting it, would be having a bit of fun with a girlfriend's mother. [quit that! potty minds... ;) ]
Anyway, I was dating a nice young girl at the time who i knew from church. So , naturally, I knew her parents too and actually really liked them, especially her mom. Besides being very attractive, her mom was an open, fun type of person that seemed to like me. We had just started going out a bit, and one Saturday I went to pick the girl up at home for our first 'car date'. Naturally , I went in, sat down, talked to the parents etc. We went to leave, and although the parents knew me and knew my folks, I WAS taking their youngest daughter out in a car and all that...So as we were backing out of the drive, I noticed the curtains in the picture window in the living room at the front of the house were pulled back just a wee bit at one corner, and saw what appeared to be her mom peering out. Feeling silly [giddy?] I backed on out, lined the car up in the street, and told the girl to hang on. Brought the car up against the converter and wailed. Before long the car was completely engulfed in smoke from the Goodyear Rally GTs and had left a sizeable portion of their useable life in a pile on the street. I sat still until the smoke cleared a bit, waved towards the house grinning like a Cheshire cat, and idled off into the evening...
[her mom and I actually got on even better after that! ]

Yankee boy with a nice car

My wife and I were driving down an interstate in Alabama in 1970. We were in a '68 Super Bee that was pretty much stock. Not real noisy or racy sounding. We had New Jersey plates on the car. I looked up in the rear view mirror and noticed a red car coming up pretty quick. As he got closer I could see that it had a red light on top. When he got even closer, I could tell that it was a Javelin. I said to my wife "must be a fire somewhere 'cause this looks like a fire chief coming up behind me and he's coming fast. Can't be many fire chiefs that get to drive a Javelin". I realized that he didn't have the light flashing, though. He got right behind me and stayed there until I decided to pull off the interstate to get some gas. He also pulled off and follwed me right into the gas station. When I got out of the car, I realized that he was a policeman (state trooper, I think). He walks up to me and says "NJ plates, huh?" Yes, sir. "whatcha doin around here, boy?" I said "just passin through, We're on our way to New Orleans. We're on our honeymoon". He thinks about that for a minute and mumbled something that sounded like congratulations. The he says "let me ask you a question, boy. How fast will that car go?" Playing it safe, I answered, "I honestly don't know officer. I always try to stay within the speed limit". That pissed him off a little. "BOOOYY... I asked you how fast that car will go!" So, I said "well, I did have it up to about 125 on the Northeast extension of the Pennsy Turnpike once". He grinned and said "that's more like it. Now.... y'all not gonna be driving that fast around here are ya?"
"No sir, I won't" He turns to get back in his car and says "Good!" Then he stops and says "By the way, that sure is a nice lookin' car...'specially for a yankee boy"
