ok fella's a buddy of mine has a 63 d100 and when under hard accel the rear end hops. I dont mean wheel hop as much as axle hop, it is real bad at speed in excess of 75 mph. it has traction bars that do not extend fully to the front spring eye, and old air shock's. this truck is mini tubbed with 28x11.50 slicks, 4.10 gears a 340 eng( slightly warm) and a 727 with a 2500 stall. any idea's? I was thinking that the bars may be causing the springs to wrap up, due to the fact that the bar is pushing the spring and not the eye. and the air shocks are so old they wont hold air, so they are just along for the ride. thanks in advance.

if air shocks dont hold air, change to good set of gas shocks.will help a bit.if bars dont clamp to spring pack on front end, then the bushing tip should be within 5/16 of an inch of the springs.if too for away they dont do anything.use angle steel between them and spring perch to bring bushing closer.

Wheel spin at 75?? Sounds to me like it has tire imbalance. Also, slapper bars should contact the eye and not the spring. Besides, Mopars don't generally use slappers....

thats what I thought. does anyone make the caltrac bars for this app? I dont think a pinion snubber will work, the frame is modified and I am not sure if there is any contact point for the snubber. I was thinking about making a longer set of bars for it. the spring eye is 23" from the spring perch. and I think some coil over springs may do the trick for the shock problem. thanks guys!

is it the factory truck suspension ? or has it been changed ? trucks don't follow the car design for springs

I've seen Cal-Tracs on pickups before so it can be done. Best place for info on that is to contact John Calvert directly.....

 I was thinking too much power!!

If the slapper bars are within an inch or two from the front eye I don't see how that could be a problem, especially on a truck spring. I bet you simply have worn shocks and/or the aforementioned wheel balance issues. Also your tires may not be true (round) and that will cause some funny wobbling.

the truck did sit for several years so there may be a flat spot issue. and the traction bars are something like 6to 8 " from the eye. I will try and get some pics of the suspension soon. this has been quite the ordeal with wiring( it was a gutted race only truck, and was really rigged). thanks.

just take the tires to a local tire shop.they can spin balance them and you will see if they have any hop to them.

I agree, have the tires balanced, than try again, and if it persists, dependibg on how much the springs twist under load, (before bars touch) im wondering if it creates a real bad pinion angle and also the shake
