Back in June I dragged home a 73 Satellite
The parts that are there are in good shape
Basically missing the front end
Got to looking it over and I see the fender tag says 803 for Aug 3 and I was thinking it was a very early build car
But when I looked a the door tag it shows it was built in 1973 August

So how close to the last car was this one built ?
Just curious as I have a 1969 Charger built 807 and it was one of the first ones built

Well does any one know of a 73 with a later number on it or a 74 car with an early number close to this one ?

Cars weren't built in VIN order. A later number (Higher VIN) doesn't ensure it was built after this one. The best thing to check is the door stickers.

Unless factory documents surface, there isn't a way to answer this (So how close to the last car was this one built?) question.

As we move into the 70's, the earliest SPDs go later into August than the late 60's cars and production goes later in the calendar year.

It looks like production of the 74 models at the St. Louis plant starts the last week of August 1973.

On this car on the bottom line of the sticker is when it was completed: 08-07 in the 17th hour. They didn’t have that on the 1970-72 stickers.

Yes the higher or lower VIN doesn’t tell us when it was built. The cars were not built in VIN order.

OK then as the years went by first of August was not the start of the new model year
So there was another couple weeks after this car was built of the 73 model was still being made

Good to know
Was just for my own interest and curiosity
Thanks

Cool I learned something today
How to read some of the codes on the door sticker

My 73 Road Runner was built on my birthday 03/20 @ 9:00am. I always knew it was a March build according to the door decal, but never paid any attention to the MDH code. Thx. for the "Decoder Ring" R413.
