Take note of the wheels.

I don't know what it means?

CHOLO Boys and their slammin' bad camber wheels. Notice the license plate? That should explain it!!! cr8crshr/Bill:screwy::screwy::screwy::usflag::usflag::usflag:

They also seem to like tying pieces of garbage to their bumpers.
Street cred.

It's been around for a while; but haven't seen one that radical. There's a name I have for it, but this is in the GD. Kind of along the lines of dudes who wear pants 5 sizes too big and show their underwear. Cops like that though, cuz they can't run much..

The young or old (?), those that do that, are lame...
It's a statement of some sort, fad ( why ?) or style (what style ?)
maybe they're just idiots...

You see stupid **** & 'I got have that mentality'
no matter how idiotic it is or how lame it looks
a bunch of stupid fad followers
it too will pass, like most of the bad fads, all do...

I'm sure many people, probably older purists
all thought I was lame or weird, (that stupid kid, man etc. or why do it ?)
With my jacked-up or then later lowered hot rods/muscle cars,
with stuff sticking out the hood or a hood scoop, 500-600+ hp
driving around or my big 15"-18" wide tires in the back & 5" wide in the front

I know there was a lot more people doing what I did
in many different ways, back then too...

In WI, where the roads are rough and it snows half the year, this is not really a thing.
Who woulda thunk it: a car running with 1" of ground clearance on 15% of the tire tread is not good in snow? Or over potholes? Or raised culverts?
We have storm drain manhole covers recessed in the road that would give this car a fit.

The potted-up & curvy *** roads up here,
they'd bottom out all over the place, be ugly as hell
tires popped or come off the wheels/rims
&/or wouldn't get too far...

Every once in a while a tourist
usually 'somebody from the valley', flatlands or the Bay area
has some (lame) car like that
usually broke down on the side of the road, talking on their cell phones
probably stuck/bottomed out or they're calling & waiting for a hauler...

How many miles do they get out of a set of tires? That looks expensive.

is there some sort of performance advantage? some one fill me in

I'll translate for you - it means "Look at meeeeee!!!"

IMO there's a big difference between image mods that reduce the functionality of a car and performance mods that reflect a deep knowledge of how the car works. We are not the same.

In some crowds, that "Look" is called Stanced.
In other words, the car has a specific Stance. That extreme negative camber is not a simple adjustment either. You have to really modify the mounting points of the suspension to get that look.
Hey...I think it looks dumb as **** like most of you do BUT....
Who remembers this look?

In retrospect, the high *** end looks stupid too. How about THIS look ??

Those are all cases of "form follows function."

What function does "stance" perform? It looks like it inhibits every function!

I would put it in the category of "art car." It's o.k. as an artistic statement, until the imitators and posers proliferate, than it has no value as "art" either.

A certain amount of negative camber helps with cornering grip because the outer tires in a turn will be closer to upright when the body leans.
The "stanced" cars took that to the extreme.
A jacked up car with N-50-15" tires handled poorly.
I am not interested in poor handling cars no matter how fast they are in a straight line.
I have long preferred the look of a NASCAR inspired street car that looks like the car is lowered over wide tires that fill the wheelwells out nicely:

I think the rear is a bit jacked up on the 3rd gen NASCAR Chargers. Of course the nose is slammed way down, but if the rear wheel openings weren't faired in, it would be clear that the rear is lifted. It won't do great things for low speed handling, but at 180, on this car, I bet the extra downforce makes up for the higher center of gravity.

I'd be fine with owning any of the jacked up drag cars you posted, if I was using them for drag racing. Which I don't do, but if I did . . .

That's all it is, right there - common attention whoring.
Goes along with all the "selfie" this and "sell my brand" that.
We've got an entire generation of precious snowflakes that bought into the hype they
have been sold from infancy - that they're all special and unique, so LOOK AT ME!

*yawn*

I agree with this, except the bottom car has too much rim by far and not enough fat rubber. 2" less rim diameter at least. Old cars should not have low profile rims, but it's not my car so people should do what they like.

My car will outhandle every similar car with stock tires and wheels. The rim width matches the tire width as needed and suggested. This isn't the 70s anymore, man. The old style had the tires tucked way in too far and it made the cars look like an elephant with tiny feet. No thanks.
These cars can handle quite well with some modern wheels, tires and suspension improvements. I'd never leave a classic like this:

Charger 600.jpg

6" wide wheels, 78 series tires, positive camber with almost no caster at all....this car probably couldn't turn .6 Gs on a skid pad. Tires begging for mercy on a 25 mph turn?
No. This is not for me.
