ok so now I have started digging into this project and I know this car will fire up with a 12V wire from my battery to my + side of my coil, and rednecking it across the two terminals on the solenoid, however it still will not spin the starter with the ignition key being turned. (it may have been ask on here before, but I did not run across it on my search.
does anyone on here have a link to a wiring diagram on the 1972 Satellite?
also, which models are the same (I am assuming the Road Runner and Satellite are close to the same) which other models are very similar?

it just kills me that my door ajar buzzer is still working on this thing...love it...reminds me of my fathers old 75 Chrysler New Port Custom :)

thanks guys....

I am thinking neutral safety switch also, as the previous owner replaced the ignition switch and that def attaches to the neutral safety switch in the column. I bet he didn't even try to hook it up, may have to go around it.

ok I have looked thru the wiring schematic A and B for the 72 Satellite, but I do not seem to be able to find the Neurtral Safefy wiring colors or switch, any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Its on A right under the TH in Plymouth Black with trace and black goes to the starter relay to cut off power if in gear.

thanks I found a picture of the Neutral Safety switch today, which I plan to jump out just to see if that is the problem.
cant wait to get this thing running, driving.. should be fun....

Can check it by removing the brown wire from the starter relay and then ground that terminal. If it starts then the relay is fine.

thanks, I may have to clean the wires to find the brown one... :(
but I will see what it shows

ok, a local guy told me to check the YELLOW wire to see if it has 12 volts on it when I am turning the key to the start position.... it does!

he also said the black wire coming off the solenoid is going to the neutral safety switch on the trans and that if I pull it off and ground it....it should bypass the neutral safety switch...

problem is which side??? the wire side or the solenoid side? HELP!!!

ok I called ole ralph back and he said to ground the black terminal on the bottom of the solenoid to the chassis...
did that and it still will not spin over with key/ignition turned to start position.
ran out of day light, will try again tomorrow.

One thing you could do is clean all your connections up real good, Could be as simple as a bad ground which ive found to be the case in many problems..

yea I should do that, lol

I am excited about this old car... I want to get it running soon. The engine sounded pretty good when it did run, hopeing the trans is ok too.

Ah,, You'll be cruising around before you know it! Good luck with it the 72 is a great looking car...

The black wire you describe is in fact brown with a yellow trace; this wire provides a ground, via the neutral safety switch, for the primary side of the starter relay. If you have removed the brown/yellow lead from the starter relay and grounded the terminal it was connected to, with 12volts present on the yellow wire terminal, as you have indicated you have, the relay should activate, starter should spin. If not, and you can “jump “ the relay on the secondary terminals, the relay is bad.
