I need to replace the rear springs and T bars in the front in my A12 coronet. DO I buy new ones or used ones.? Do I build a set from old springs sandblasting and installing new bushing? I also heard heard that everything from a RT is the same.So if you have some good advice or good parts for me let me know

If you don't mind me asking, how are your current pieces failing you? Are they damaged or missing? Or, are you doing an A12 conversion?

I suggest staying with the originals. You can't beat OEM. The rear springs can be rebuilt/ re-arched and even powder coated for durability.

The T bars are a pretty rubust piece of engineering. I've had over six 68-70 b bodies and no issues with any of the T bars. Not sure of yours, but suggest used OEM unless you plan on bracket racing/ road course, or the car will see some other extreme use.

R/T and GTX will be a target of opportunity for used OEM replacements. They should have what you are looking for. The numbers 780 and 781 will be found on the very end of each bar. As far as the rear springs go... XHD springs are the ones you want. One side has 6 leaves, the other 7.

I am doing an A12 conversion (RR) and I went with used originals. I'm not bracket racing the car with slicks and I'm not running any road courses with it. Just a plane old A12 conversion using original parts and components. I can't afford a real one.

Hope this helps you in your journey.

springs

When I bough my bee in the 80s Somebody took the dana out and put in a 8 3/4rear. it also had a 9 qt. oil pan headers traction bars pro 50s and center line wheelssThe guy i bough it from used to race the hell out of it.I started to put it back to factory.I know the rear springs are 5on one side and 6 on the other.Witch is not right. Sow i was thinking its over 40 yrs its time for new ones.

Sounds like the rear springs went with the Dana. I would consider retaining what I assume are the stock hemi/440 torsion bars, just make sure they are the 780/781's. I would remove the springs/rear and replace with OEM 6/7 leaf set and... *gulp... the ever so expensive DANA rear if you have not already done so. A used spring set is about $250 and an original DANA would set you back between $1100-$1900, depending on condition.

If your 8 3/4 is a 489 case, a good sure grip unit, and 3.23's or lower, you should be able to get several hundred $$ for it, which will offset your overall cost of getting your rear suspension back to spec for your A12.

You are a lucky man to have an original A12. I'm going thru similar pains with my 383 to 440-6 conversion.
