It's difficult enough trying to sand and prep underneath, but I found trying to paint tough because of the angles that the gun needs to be pointed. A swivel air connection would help I think as the overall length of the gun, regulator, dryer & air connection tends to be restrictive. As the paint level runs low, the angle of the gun needs to be 90* to keep paint flowing. Then there's the airline dragging on the drop sheet, which then also bunches up under the creeper and of course paint is spraying on your face! I used a face shield but it doesn't take long for this to get covered and it was bulky and in the way. A full face respirator would be better probably. I came out looking like smurf lol.
Turned out pretty good overall but I'm glad this part is over!

Looks great, were you sticky when finished? That is something I would not like. I did a bit with Raptor Liner and you are correct about gun angle especially when you have a filter and regulator hanging off the gun.

not bad, the paint suit has held up well! The shop is so dusty from metal work, I was a human tack cloth. A little tough to hose down the floor up here in February! The drop sheet helped to keep the dust at bay while spraying. Good enough for painting the underside.
The air line is a pain to manage while standing, but nearly impossible lying down. I worked at a GM dealer body shop some 30+ years ago and I remember watching the painters pinching the air line in the booth while the painted. I asked them why and that's how they regulated the air pressure on their siphon guns.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm sort of at a cross roads with it now. Trying to decide between assembly as it is or repainting. I'm starting to prep the leaf springs and rear axle now. Finally some mechanical stuff to play with! I took apart the leafs and applied ospho to them after a dusty clean up with the wirewheel.

Got the leaf springs cleaned up. The front bushings looked like the rubber was rotting away so I removed them. That was quite a job. The center sleeves pressed out with a ball joint press, then I cut the rubber up with a sawsall until they pushed out. The outer sleeves were a bear to remove. I cut them and worked at collapsing them until they popped out. Then I had the local spring shop order and press in new ones for about $50. Also bought new plastic spacers or sliders or anti-friction pads...whatever they are called as well as new bolts to pull the springs together. The spring shop charged me a wopping 50 cents a piece for the pads and $2 for the 5/16x24 bolts! The pads were a close fit but I ended up splitting them in half to get them to fit properly. I can't believe the old bolts didn't break when I removed them as they're pretty crusty.

Time to clean up this 1970 housing.

I'm contemplating putting in green bearings instead of the tapered timkens. The left side looks like it was leaking.

All cleaned up and nice and shiny!

Loosely fitting it all together. Man it looks nice to see everything cleaned up and repainted. Bent up a new fuel line and installed along with the brake line.

Those rusty leaf springs are the reason I just bought brand new ones with bushings installed already on my two builds. Totally worth the $320

Nope, this mopar affliction doesn't permit much 'time-off'! Been trying to find someone local that paints cars. No one around here is interested in anything but collision work it seems. Crazy! Meanwhile, I've turned my attention to some of the interior stuff that needs attention. Pics to follow...

Managed to climb out of the trunk! The springs were brutally rusty, but came out much nicer after some wirewheel work with the grinder. I figured I'd try a coat of POR on them to see how it holds up. If they peel and look like crap, I'll replace them later. Budget is tight lately so I have to save where I can. I really hate rust at this point lol.

Best stuff I have used on rust is Corroseal rust converter. Used it on my bumper brackets. Turns the rust black and seems to have a hard finish that can be painted over.

On that note, I decided to reuse the gas tank as it didn't leak and was not rusty inside. I took the wirewheel to it and cleaned of a lot of crud. Treated with POR and painted it. Turned out pretty good I think.
