Whats the DUMBEST thing you've done to your Mopar?

View attachment 559207 Traded off in 1977 a 71 V code track pack , 4 speed , equip GTX at a used car lot in Des Moines on Merle Hay Rd. There is a Quick Trip C store at that location now but if I look real hard I can still see it sitting there. Years later a buddy of mine did some research on it and said it was 1 of 80 built B5 blue , white vinyl top, pistol grip, no console. :BangHead:
It would be cool to find that one again! Any idea if it is anywhere around anymore? Kind of unique and would stick out in a crowd.

Shoulda spent less on beer and more on cars from the start! Now days beer money gets spent on cars instead...

The sad part is I do know what became of it. I seen it a few months later at Trails end salvage yard by the river on university ave just north of Millies Tender loins LOL.
Hit hard in the front, engine and trans had been pulled , dana was still under it.
That was back when you could still walk the yards , we were hunting a low mile chevy trans for a friend of mine. It wasn't a big deal then, just another wrecked muscle car.
hind sight 20/20 dang.

Bought my first car 74 charger 318 auto
Learned (self taught) how to power brake the car was boiling that poor little tire off (peg leg) till blew the trans apart and had to push it home! Oh well atleast the tire didn't pop too!

Other was a 70 lemans Sport (first car) 17 years old I was . it had no posi but quickly learned if I rolled it backwards and neutral dropped it into drive it would light up both tires and sound like a pro stock lol but one time the last time it blew the spider gears right through the cast housing of that 10 bolt. LOL
Same car took the exhaust manifolds off with intentions to install headers. figure start it up with no manifolds. man it sounded wicked so I took it for a blast up the road when I got back into the driveway my ears where ringing,my mom standing at the doorway yell "what the hell are you doing " and every dog in the surrounding 2 miles where barking and carrying on... car felt like it picked up 50 hp !!!lol the things kids do.. WELL THIS KID.

It’s not everyday spider gears get up and do a thing like that.

Change out a 383 for a 440 with a Torker intake and forgot to check hood clearance on the carb stud, now a nice little dimple in hood.

Sort of a Mopar... BITD had an old CJ7. Just washed it and changed the oil, took a buddy out for a cruise. Engine started bucking like a bull. Pull over and it’s just spurting oil like a stuck pig.

Yep, the o-ring from the old filter was still on. Pulled into a 7-11 parking lot, bought some oil, yanked the filter, removed the old gasket slapped it back on, filled her up and drove on... now with a healthy lifter tick.

Damn fool.

First restoration was a 66 Charger and I thought I would remember where everything went including every fastener, clip, all of the bajillion interior pieces, etc. just had a bucket for the bolts, nuts etc., and piled everything else on shelves. I didn't label or photo a single piece. It took months(years) to sort it all out and there was definitely a leftover parts bin....and I never found the glove box hinges.

Easy. Trying to get my 62 savoy ready to go to la county (Palmdale ) somehow left the key on and had a wire short out under the dash (I'm guessing, i never did isolate the cause ). My friend convinced me to just redo the instrument cluster with an aluminum panel with just the gauges wiring and switches needed. It works ok and looks ok, but I was somehow stupid enough to throw away an immaculate cluster. I've been looking for one ever since. I'd be happy with one half as nice aswhat i had.

I had a 69 RR Coupe that was my daily driver in the 70's and we took it out to pick up some doors and fenders off of a GTX race car for my 69 convertible that I am just now putting together. While I was there the guy showed me a 68 RR that had a 440 in it. It was a real Hemi car that had gotten stolen for the motor twice and he finally decided to just put an RB in it. He offered to trade me for my driver that I had driven there and I told him " No, I don't like 68's", took my sheet metal and left.

Done plenty of dumb things. On this car, I built the engine with a serious cam with little vacuum. That was after I added power disc brakes to an all manual drum car. No vacuum = no power assist. Duh. Changed cam.

Went out to start my 69 Charger and forgot to press clutch within one crank it ran it right into workbench.

Running my stock 68 hemi RR up to 150mph on a two-lane road with half used tires. It took both lanes because the front was so light.
Been there and done that with a 68 GTX column shift automatic on I95 just before they opened the new road. The 69 428 Torino I was racing let off it at about 130.

Selling a factory 1968 Satellite covertable. Came with a 383, 4 speed, 373 rear. Ordered by the original owner to tow a camper.

On the 2nd 1320 trip in my wife's 65 421 Tri-power 4 speed GTO after installing a pair of Toyo Proxes TQ Drag radials on the factory crappy open rear axle blew the spider gears to pieces! I'm glad. Now there is some urgency to buying the Ford 9" based posi rear axle assembly!

Dumbest thing?... Let some one else fix the rear end on my 69 Charger. Was cruising town one night when the old girl just locked right up. Towed it to "the nearest shop". Told them exactly what I had in her -8 3/4 with a 3:55 posi. Two weeks later it was done, and I cruised home...only to have it lock up again! It took me a month, just because of my work schedule, but I fixed her myself this time, and she ran great from that day on. Lesson learned: If you don't have a mechanic you can trust, do it yourself.

For me it was with my 73 Road Runner, 340 and 727 with a Slap Stik, 3.55 Sure Grip rear.

This is likely in 1983, give or take a year. I had just rebuilt the transmission and was "test driving" it. Figured I would use the Slap Stik for a hard acceleration "test". Foot to floor and slapped my shifter handle from first directly into reverse at full throttle! Ouch! Turns out my shift linkage was not working correctly after putting it back together.

The transmission went directly into reverse and I did a reverse burn out while moving forward (or maybe the wheels locked up - not exactly sure as it happened quickly). Anyway, I got the thing into neutral and coasted to a stop by the side of the road. The amazing thing was that everything seemed to be OK. That same transmission is still working...

1. Changed oil in 72 Challenger and didn't check to make sure the oil filter rubber seal came off oil pump with filter. Put the new filter right on top of the old seal. 100 miles later it all came off in the middle of the road.

2. Showing off in my 1967 Polara 383 when in my teens. Put it in neutral and revved her up hoping to get a scratch by dropping it into drive. Drive shaft dropped like a rock right onto pavement.
