Golden Goddess heart surgery

False.
The Fel Pro seals are shipped in plastic bags to keep them soft and pliable. Take them out and they start to harden.

So they disintegrate when exposed to air.

No, they do not.
50 yrs old in a uv environment? Ya I could buy in to that

I never stated that they disintegrate.
Read what I wrote and don’t add your own spin to it.
Why would they package the halves in a sealed plastic bag if not to preserve their condition?

I'm on board with your thought process, but they don't lose their performance from not being in a bag. I've had lots of old seals from kits and you can't tell the difference from new ones.

I pulled the rear main out with the engine still in the car. It was a fresh rebuild and a defective seal. It was easier than doing a seasoned engine but I suspect as suggested, all you need is to push one end in with some plastic or wood stick, something that won’t scratch the crank if you slip. The other end will pop out and then you extract it. I’ve done it.
Cheers.
Yep, definitely a seasoned engine, and a mushy rope seal, makes it so much more fun!

For some reason, I thought about you today on my way to a car show. Lol. :poke:

Took the heads off to change the valve seals. Now I have a new problem. The new valve locks for the new valve springs, half are single grove half are double. Both valves use single groves :BangHead:

Looking at Lunatis website, they show valve locks with recess valve lash caps, and without. How do I know which one I need?

I found them, but they list recessed valve lash and without recessed valve lash caps. I have no idea what that means, and no idea which ones I need

I hear you on that. Can you talk to a tech guy at one of those many speed shops down there? Jegs, Summit, 440 Source, Edelbrock??
Send them off a picture in this modern age taking seconds instead of weeks??

The keepers are recessed to make room for lash caps on top. So in your application you could use either, but the non recessed is preferred.

Alright, it’s been a while but I’m back at it….or so I thought.

Got the transmission apart. It’s a Frankenstein iron case with od gears in it, so assembly/disassembly is a little complicated. But, once I got it apart…bad needle bearings! I threw this transmission together a week before a roadtrip, so it wasn’t done correctly, just good enough, now it’s time to actually do it right so I don’t have to do it again. A nice shopping cart form brewers, and once Santa drops off the presents, back on track

And the valve lock saga continues. 440 source uses the smaller 7 degree lock, not good enough for my cam.

But Lunati had 10 degree locks in the cam kit. Only they had the 3 groove, and 1 groove. I thought great buy 8 single groove and we’re good, right? Wrong, the ones they sent in the kit are the wrong inside diameter or something, because they don’t work. So out comes the credit card again

I've only rebuilt one 727 in my life and had help.....and 0 gear boxes!! Kinda odd with the way I abused ALL transmissions. Guess I wasn't abusing them enough but doing neutral drops and power shifting stick boxes should have been enough....?
