67 GTX tire size

Hi Gang, just bought a 1967 GTX, and was wondering what is the largest tires I can run on the front and the back with Magnum 500s all around.
I have cooper cobras all around. M&S 225/60R15's on the front & P245/60R15's on the back. Looks Like I can handle a little more width on the rear, and not to much diameter on the front without getting into the fender. BUT I have not stopped to try the 245 on the front yet

275/60/15 is the biggest you’ll get on the rear, and it’ll be a bear wrestling them on lol, I had to un bolt the shocks. Not sure about the front.

It may depend on the width and rear offset of the Magnums since they come in various combinations. I have 15x7 Magnums with 215/75 tires and in the rear they are a bear to get on/off. A 6 inch width wheel or bit more offset to the inside would make a big difference.

275 60-15 on a 15x7 with 4.25 to 4 3/8 BS or a 15x8 with 4.5-5 BS. WILL be a bear to put on, but will fit.

On 15x7 cop car steelies. About 4.25-4 3/8 BS I put on 255/70/15s. 275s may have fit but I wanted a taller tire. They're snug and don't rub unless the car is really jostled side to side like going to fast into a really messed up driveway. A rear sway bar would easily remedy it because the rubbing isn't barely there, the nubs on my new tires wouldn't survive if it was bad. The section width of the 255/70/15 is probably the culprit. I have 2" over stock springs though so that may help, but it would clear without unless you really hit a crater haha. I had to have it put on a lift to get the suspension at full droop to put them on, hope you have a bumper jack or a cool garage nearby. Hope I helped a little. I also heard Plymouths had a little more leeway in tire width, don't quote me on that though.

A 275/60-15 must go on a 15x8 wheel minimum

My Coker-bought 15x7 inch Magnums have a 4.25" backspace. I don't see how some of you get some of those big tires in there. Even my front ones will touch when near full lock. Coronets have those coke bottle rear fenders and possibly the rear wheel wells are slightly roomier.

My 15x7''s have worked for 18 years with 275/60's. No ill wear, at track or on road. No ill handling. I know they ask for a 15x8, but I've had zero issues with mine, ever. Two different cars too. 66 satellite & 67 coronet. Both work fine. Both size tires too. 255/70 and 275/60. Both cars. The 66 has stock worn out, 51 year old shocks and springs. The 67 Has SS springs and long shocks. I use two jack stands under frame rails and let rear axle hang down to install/remove them.

To get L60x15's on and off used a bottle to jack spring down, didn't have to unbolt shock. The L60's rubbed when cornering, 7" wheels 4" bs. Ran E60x15's on front same wheels, they were 8" to 9" wide.

225/70/15 Front
255/70/15 Rear 15x7 cop wheels with 4.25" BS. Fit just fine. The 2" taller springs help a bit too. 275s would be a but tight but a 7" rim would suck in the sidewall. People have done it for years just fine.

If you're looking to run 275/60-15's the best bet is a 15x8 wheel with 5" of backspacing. You can "fit" with 4.5" but it will rub...I've put both on my car and tested it the real world. Here's some video of the test fit with 275/60-15 BFGoodriches on Magnum 500 wheels with 4.5" of backspace.




As you can see, they "fit"...but as I said, rubbed when turning. When the time came for me to buy my Cragars I got them in 15x8 with 5" of backspace to ensure it wouldn't rub. I've had no issues so with setup and they look great.
