Hot August Nights Reno/Sparks Nevada Aug 7-12-2018.

Just watch for the hot august nights posting for 2019. Comment when you'll be in town and we will show you around.

Thanks Dave,
That would be sensational, hoping to catch up enjoy the cars and have a beer with you guys, I will be keeping an eye out.

So I am hoping you guys can give some good advice from experience on accommodation in Reno and Detroit.

I am one of now confirmed 5 good mates who have decided to do a 25 day tour of the U.S. including stops in LA, Vegas, Reno, NY, Detroit and San Francisco.
car shows are our focus, we all have an american classics of some kind.

We are planning to stop in Reno (hot summer nights), Detroit (Woodward, Back to bricks if its possible in same day) and San Francisco (Good Guys West coast)
the thinking is at the moment to get accommodation locked away and I have these down on my itinery at the moment.

Reno - Harrah's (looks central to a lot of events)
Detroit - Townsend at Royal Oak

The other cities we will work out as we go, as there is no recognized car events, although we will probably find some local stuff if we can. I would really appreciate any feedback you might have as this is probably not something most of us will repeat, so looking to get it right first time!

WOW sounds like a killer road trip. I lived in Reno for many years and attended many shows. I would not stay at Harrahs or any downtown hotel. When our group comes down we stay at Grand Sierra. It might be a little more spendy but it is pretty much the center of all activities. This is the place everyone has to go to to register and get their credentials. Has the best entertainment and is one of the better places to eat. I think you can register for the show now and save a few bucks as well. The two other hotels I would stay at are Atlantis and Peppermill. One of them has a reserved parking spot with a sun canopy, makes it nice to have as you can cruise and have gauranteed parking out of the heat. Last years temps were over 100 and combine that with a black top parking lot it can get brutal.

Thanks Wagonman,
I appreciate that, we will mostly fly from one location to another to make the most of each stop, but we have plans to hire a car from SF to LA on the coast road just before we leave. I hear that roadtrip is a cracker! I have warned the guys about the heat, fortunately we are from a hot summer climate so whilst it's never comfortable we are used to it. thanks for the good advice, we thought being downtown it might be centre of things, so I will get the travel agent to look into Grand Sierra.

When you say S.F and the Goodguys show, are you referring to the Pleasanton show? If so, I would forgo that one. I've been to it many times. It's to expensive, the people are very rude, food outrageously expensive, the vendors are even worse. But it's your call. Good Luck

Agreed. It is a (mostly) Chevy Show in disguise. I would skip that one too.

I would agree with Wagonman. I am partial to Grand Sierra, they have just about an all inclusive casino resort. There is also a Wal Mart across the street for any essentials you may need. With downtown if you park on the street you will have to clear your car everyday for the parade. With GSR (Atlantis and Peppermill) you can leave your car parked all day and go explore the other venues. Short Uber rides across town, and/or bus ride. Depending on what you are planing, there is the Virginia City show the weekend before the Big show in Reno. That one ends on sunday and monday is the startish of the Reno Show. If you wanna save a few bucks on registration, the price goes up $20 Oct 1st.

So I take it yall are not bringing your rides? What a shame, would love to see a Aussie version Mopar. Would probably break the bank shipping them over but I am sure it has been done by well Heeled folks. If you want to check all the shows ect yes UBER is the way to go. Give us a heads up and we can gladly show you around. Cheers.

Hey Dave are you the guy I talked to with the late model Hemi conversion at the GSR? I had the Blue Chevelle wagon.

Yeah that was me. Parked across from you.
Cool, How are you coming along with your car? Looked like it was pretty well sorted out. I got a new Mopar project in the works, hope to have it ready for next HAN. Gotta drive them , no trailers here.

Haven't done much since HAN. Plans are to get the doors and fenders officially fitted and the fiberglass hood painted and attached, headliner installed, all trim added and final wiring finished this winter and hopefully have it done by next HAN. The car just had its bday on monday. It turned 50 since the originally owner bought it.

Thanks wagonman, would be great to bring the cars the Aussie mopars are good. My car came from Texas so it would be a return trip!
Been speaking to the guys and we are thinking we will bypass SF now and start our trip at the hot rod nationals in Kentucky the week before hot summer nights. And finish a week earlier. Grand Sierra has been enquired about too. Thanks for the advice. Can’t beat the local knowledge
