iam working with a friend of mine trying to seal a deal on a 73 charger rally. i would like to know did they have hideaway headlights offered in 73 i was thinking about if i ended up getting the car just doing a few things to it then driving it but looking for the parts needed to convert to hideaways its a slap stick auto maybe switch over to a pistol grip 4-speed the car now is red with the tri color stripe iam 50 50 on the tri color stripe i was thinking keeping it red then do the rally stripe in black keep the white interior it has a 440 with a/c and p/s, p/b the a/c is missing some major parts so maybe do a vintage a/c and run it through the factory vents need some feed back on what different things i could do with this car i,ll send some pics later

They did not offer the hidden headlight option in '73 and I believe you may have to use a '71-'72 bumper to use them.

No . The 1971 - 72 was the last year for the hide - away ( concealed ) headlight doors . They will fit on the 73 - 74 Charger , as long as you have the 73 - 74 brackets . 71 - 72 bumper brackets are different where they bolt to the front frame rails

This sounds like a cool car. As said above, the hidden headlights ended in '72, but several people have made the conversion. I wouldn't change too many things if everything is original. Just to give you a taste, if it's a WH23U3 they made 713, if a WL21U3 they made 26.

i was thinking if i did make any changes to the car maybe repaint it red with the black rally stripes white inside or sublime with black rally stripe white inside. i like the slapstick shifter center counsel do you think there would be any harm in switching it over to a pistol grip center counsel iam kinda more partial to the pistol grip shifter than the slap stick.

Just my personal opinion here and not seeing the car and fender tag. If a real Rallye(A57 code if not a Lynch Rd built car), not a rust bucket and original, I would not change anything, especially to a 4 speed. Now, if it needs loads of sheet metal and missing most of the original components, cut away. Let's say you have a mint Mickey Mantle and a good Pete Rose rookie baseball card, which would you go out of your way to keep in the same condition?

Agree totally with MRHWS. Those year cars are beginning to get some interest too. I'm a four speed guy too, but the slapstick is pretty cool and trademark for that era... I'd keep it....IMHO

i got to thinking about it you are totaly right iam keeping it a slapstick the floors are mint and the car bumper to bumper is complete not missing a thing on it i would have to change the side stripe it has the multicolored yellow-red not sure yet but maybe change it to black now did they have a black out treatment on the bulge hood i think i may of seen one before not sure. iam thinking keeping it red with rally stripes on the sides and the add the hood treatment maybe with time i could fall in love with the tricolor stripes and replace it with the same i think it would look cool with a tricolor decal over the bulge hood if any one has a pic of a rally 73 charger with the tricolor side stripes and a tricolor hood decal over the bulge part post some pics if i like it then thats what it will get.

give me a couple of days i'll go back to the garage and take some pics of the 73 and post them up pics are always better than trying to describe with words iam not sure if i said anything about it but another neat thing about this car is it still has factory hood pins on it.

I have seen both the matte black and the red/gold reflective side stripes on a red rallye and I personally like the gold. The hood treatment was painted on 73s, not a decal and I am not sure if there were any colors other than black. No multi colored for sure. I have seen 71 and 72 with a white decal on the hood. This is what it looks like for a 73.

This is what I picture yours to be

yep thats it i was flippin through the year one book and they dont have the multicolored side stripe only black and white so now i might have to go with black who makes the hood decal and who has the hood emblems and where do they go in reference to the bulge part of the hood?

For the 440 Magnum emblems for the hood, know as call-outs, go to your local Dodge dealer. Mopar is remaking them again and they will order them as I doubt they will have in stock. Go here http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/p-d.htm#charger for the multi-color side stripes and the "stencil" for the hood treatment. Since the hood has a bulge and for the '73, has the cut-out for the call-outs, vinyl cannot be made due to the contours so all you can get is the stencil(not cheap) to have it painted, like the original. Did you check on the vin? Like I said in my earlier post, it should be either WH23U3 hardtop or WL21U3 coupe(stationary rear window). If the next letter after the 3 on either is A, then it is a Lynch Rd car and code A59 will not be on the fender tag. Go here to decode your fender tag http://www.mopar1.us/build.html

You mentioned the original hood pins. Here is a pic of what the bottom side of the hood opening should look like. They were part of the Rallye package.

just went to phenix graphics they have a list of color choices reflective red, gold, copper. which one is it that i would need to order to get the same multicolored stripe like what was in the pic you showed me would it be the red?

iam going to drive over to the place that the charger is at now and get some good pics of it then post them tonight with the vin tag number

I think there is only one multi-colored stripe and the color code is that color portion of the stripe to be reflective. I would ask before ordering. Might shine light on the car and see what color reflects, if it still does.

well took a bunch of pics of the car it still blows me away how complete and rust free this car is wow!!
