Have you guys had any coverage of the latest 6.3 earthquake in Christchuch city New Zealand?
Some bits on utube and an American senator and his wife on CBS had a narrow escape. My family live in the area where I grew up and I have some close friends also in the area. I have spoken to some but not others. No electricity or telephone, water or sewer in the city, 75 dead 300 missing and the city is in devastation. Buildings collapsed, buses and cars squashed with occupants.
Other buildings ready to collapse and hindering rescue attempts.
Liquerfaction is terrible with silt riseing up through the roads and sink holes big enough to swallow cars.
Aftershocks that are going on and on.

Very bad situation, my thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. I watched the NBC evening world news last night and it was just one depressing story after another. WTF!

did not see anything on news, but anything like that is a bad situation.

my thoughts and prayers to those affected by the earthquake in new zealand

I've heard about this tragedy but not in great detail. I offer my prayers as well for all involved.

thanks guys. Our wee country is getting some incredible help by way of rescue crew experts from Japan, Taiwain, England, Australia. These teams were flown in immediately and are combing the wreckage of buildings with excavators occassionly having a scrape and lifting slabs of concrete looking for survivors. One particular building has 120 people unaccounted for and its just a pile of rubble. Part of the building was used as an international language school so many of the dead are visitors to New Zealand and may not be reported for ages by overseas family as missing.
The hardest thing for families is that all bodies will only be identified with DNA to make sure there are no mistakes when people make identifacation as is quite common to happen in stressful situations, It could be weeks before familys find out. 98 confirmed today as deceased.
Its amazing to see people band together at times of trouble to help fellow citizens although the looters and burglars are makeing the most of it.
City still has no power, phone, water, sewer and fuel is hard to come by.

God bless to you and yours! Where are you? Saw a vid yesterday of a man and his 2 kids finding out his wife didnt make it. Broke my heart.

Hopefully Mr Smith & mr wessin can help keeo security levels HIGH!! I do think about our KIWI members and hope for the best.

More thanks. The USA hvae also responded and sent an emergency Urban Rescue team and they have been doing secondary searches of buildings that are safe enough to go inside. 147 confirmed as dead and still 220 missing.
300 police arrived from Australia and the Australian government has put in $5million.
Unfortunately we dont have so much right to bear arms so smith'n wesson's are rarer than Hemi superbees. We just have good old fashioned punch-ups as required.
Some punjabs have been arrested for taking food from the emergency shelters and stocking the shelves in their shops. Fu##kn curry munchers.
There are now 1200 police on the ground around the city as well as the army. So the looters will have to be extra slippery. Some have already been to court.
University stucents have mobilised into an army and are digging out driveways and cars. The silt that has blown up through the ground is 6 feet deep in places.
Power is on in 50% of the city now.

Ozone, I have heard this mentioned by you and others, what is this silt "blow-up " that is being mentioned? God bless the Uni students there! Here they would just be protesting saying the government isnt doing enough! While also protesting against Big Government.

OZONE,so far,you are the only member posting about your homeland:angel1:We can only see what is on the TV,please keep us imformed about the progress down there.Maybe you can post some pictures too.Wishing New Zealand a quick & safe recovery,,,,,,,,,Al

How about the rest of the members in New Zealand........?

I know we have a few between the sites.......I hope they're all OK.

It'd be good to have them chime in and let us know how they're doing, if, that is, they can all respond.........I'd imagine that some communications are still being disrupted........

Hang in there all of ya'..............Prayers are with ya'.

the silt blow up is called liquifaction where the solid particles settle and the liquids rise above the ground. At my buddy's house which is two storey the mud had made it up onto the roof. That gives you an idea of the forces involved.
When this quake came you could here it comming as a very load roar as it approached at 20 metres per second, near enough a yard per second, there aint no out running it.

thanks hemi tagious. Why not try and get onto our television network website.
TVNZ on demand or Television New Zealand on google should give you something. We have the two main news networks TV1 and TV3. If you can find some pics to post then by all means go ahead coz I am a bit useless in that department.

Hi guys I'm from NZ too. I'm one of the lucky ones as I live in the North Island of New Zealand, in a region called the Waikato. Thank you all so much for all your kind words and thoughts. I do have family down there in Christchurch and I'm happy to say that they are very lucky and are safe there too.

Thanks again for all your well wishes :)

This latest quake as the last one {sept4th2010} is localised in the Canterbury area. It would seem that the Sept quake has in fact weakened and fractured other areas with dormant fault lines. There have been 5000 after shocks and tremours as high as 5.5 aand then this 6.3 last Tuesday. Although a smaller magnitude it was only 3miles deep and has had far more effect.
We have in the South Island a mountain range a bit like the Rockies, and the experts believe that other fault lines are about to liven up with another large one predicted for 20th March.
Those Experts didnt even know about the first fault line that let go in Sept.
How much does anybody know about the earth other than its not flat anymore??

Hi there DMR440 glad your family are o.k. I would Imagine their nerves are about shredded. Do you think you can post some pics for these folks? I mentioned they could google TVNZ.

Hi this is the only image I have. it was taken by a tourist just as the earth quake happened. If you like go to www.tvnzondemand.co.nz to see all current news coverage.

Just type in Christchurch in the search bar on the TVNZ site.
Cheers.
