Hey guys, while I am waiting for my seats to come back from having the covers put on, I decided to try and make sure the fuel gauge works as this car sat for many years before I got it.

It has a new tank and new sender. I went and pulled the sender out of the tank. I wire the factory wire to it and I grounded it. I turned the key on and expected I could move the arm and watch the gauge move.

NOTHING

SO I read the link that was posted on here somewhere about testing this.

The wire from the sender is good all the way up front. The fuses all appear to be good. SO comes the part where it has you use a test light on the gauge.

I see no wires, just the studs that come through. The temp gauge seems to have a pulse on both studs. The fuel gauge has nothing.

Am I way off here or is it just that the gauge is bad for the fuel? are there supposed to be wires to the studs?

littel lost here and any help would be appreciated. Nothing like doing something you thought would be quick for peace of mind and now this.
LOL

Do you have a rallye or standard cluster panel? On the rallye, you should have a multiple end black wire that runs from the voltage limiter to the temp, oil and fuel gauges. There is also a blue wire that comes out of the main harness. It plugs onto the fuel terminal furtherest from the limiter. Same configuration whether you have a tach, clock or neither.

Yep......and if you have the standard style cluster (Non Rally) it will have a 10 pin connector and there will not be any wires to the studs.
Go here to see pic's of my Non Rally dash.......

I have the regular satellite dash.

Thanks guys, hadn't had a chance to get back on here and post an update. On another board a member told me to test the gauge with two D batts. I taped two together and then ran clips to the psot and the gauge worked.

Then I did some more testing with my test light and realized I had power on the circuit board where it should be but not on the post. the nut is what completes that connection so i figured it was corroded. Reach up to loosen the nut and it was way loose. made it tight and the gauge works as it is suppsed to. Ground it and it goes full as well.

then today I went ahead and got the dash out and stripped it down and two pins broke of that dang circuit board. need to repair that now. I remember years ago my dad talking about the dash lights being intermitent so i bet they were broke for some time because i barely pulled back on it. Anyway, i will get it.

thanks again
