Hey superstockracer

cam, HERE'S THE nhra RULES
I have never had a tech guy check under my car but at maple grove for pinks allout the tech nazi checked everyones car. even high 10's and low 11's.
For your own safety i would recommend one anyway.
But for your speed you dont need one according to NHRA.

here are the rules.
If you are street/strip, then you need to follow your local track's or NHRA's guides.

2.14 TRANSMISSION, AUTOMATIC

Any non-OEM floor-mounted automatic transmission shifter must be equipped with a spring loaded positive reverse lockout device to prevent the shifter from accidentally being put into reverse gear. Functional neutral safety switch mandatory. All transmission lines must be metallic or high-pressure-type hose. All vehicles running quicker than 9.99 seconds (*6.39) or faster than 135 mph (217.2 km/h) and using an automatic transmission must be equipped with a transmission shield meeting SFI Spec 4.1 and labeled accordingly. "Blanket" type shield, appropriately labeled as meeting SFI Spec 4.1 permitted. All non blanket type shields must incorporate two (or one, per manufacturer's instructions) 3/4-inch (19.1 mm) x 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) straps that bolt to the shield on each side, and pass under the transmission pan, or transmission pan must be labeled as meeting SFI Spec 4.1. Permitted in all classes where an automatic transmission is used. 9.99 (*6.39) or quicker ET cars, and 135 mph (217.2 km/h) or faster ET cars using an automatic transmission must be equipped with a flexplate meeting SFI Spec 29.1 and covered by a flexplate shield meeting SFI Spec 30.1. Air shifter bottles must be stamped with DOT -1800 pound (124 bar) rating (minimum) and be securely mounted (i.e. no tie-wraps or hose clamps.)

i use a CSR shield on 3 of my cars and a jwbell on my 63 plymouth. no more trans. blankets for me.
There is nothing wrong with them but just remember your going to need a u shaped shield to protect the shifter cable and lever from the blanket from interference. ASK ME HOW I KNOW. IT COST ME $12,000 IN ENGINE AND TRANS. DAMAGE 4 YEARS AGO DUE TO NOT PUTTING ON THE U SHAPED CUSTOM BRACKET.

Is the magic number 11.5 for tranny blankets as well.I ordered one.

If you like your feet and legs I would put either a blanket or shield on the car.
You don't have to go fast to have one blow up.
What happens is if something fails in the driveline or even if you spin then hook real hard it can roll the sprag (over run clutch) which will then turn the front drum 2.2 times the input shaft RPM. SO if your input is turning 6000 RPM then the front drum is turning 13,200 RPM. The stock front drum is made out of powdered iron and cannot with stand that kind of speed. IT WILL EXPLODE. I've seen pictures of floorboards peeled back and guy’s feet shattered because of a Torqueflite explosion.

We're running an A&A Ultimate Sprag and an Aluminum Drum which can more than withstand the RPM and we still run a CSR Trans Shield not because of the rules, because Dad likes his feet the way they are.

X3 on the CSR Shield. I run mid 10's and I went with a A&A trans and CSR shield. I didn't really need the strong trans and shield but I believe in SAFETY,SAFETY,SAFETY.

GET THE SHIELD!!!!!!!!!

I thank Everybody who answered my question.Love this place.I was told by another racer. If my trans hump or firewall has not been altered in any way a trans blanket was not required.I had doubt. So I ask the long time veterans.Again Thanx for your imformation and I will use her.Oh by the superstockracer,I'm going balls to the wall tonight.I'll let you Know how I do.

Signed All Excited.
