I admit to being an Ebay junkie, it's pretty much the only way to source some parts for US cars, here in Australia but I'm regularly disappointed that many sellers will not ship outside of the USA.

I understand that maybe they've had bad experiences and want to play it safe and don't want to risk damaging their reputations but to cut straight to the chase here,
Australia is rolling in cash!!

Yep, Global financial crisis be buggered, we are doing quite well thankyou very much and our dollar is currently, and has been for some time, belting the greenback about the head and telling it who's boss, so I beg US vendors that are struggling for cash to consider selling to Australians.

We may only have got electricity a couple of years ago and still ride around on Kangaroo's but we use the same Paypal that you do and the money is just as real as your own.

US muscle cars are flooding into this country on the back of our dollar, helped by the fact that the US economy is hurting, you can help yourselves by capitalising on our current strength and make some cash!!!

I recently ordered a heap of chrome parts for my 440 and have a set of headers about to arrive, all from the US of A, all we ask is that you treat us like you would an American, don't gouge us on shipping (USPS is preferred) and you will find us coming back for more and more!

Here's an example, I want one of these;

This bloke just missed a sale because he won't ship to Australia!

It's still only one trip to the post office guys, the only difference is instead of the parcel going to Milwaukee or Pensacola, it's going to Melbourne or Sydney. Maybe you'll need to pack it a little more thorough but how hard is that if its making you cash and keeping you in business?

Keep us in mind if you want to sell stuff, we are friendly and our money's good and I cannot emphasise enough how booming the US muscle car scene is over here.

I recently shiped some parts to Canada and had to fill out more paper work but it wasn't that much so no big deal. Problem I have with the USPS is they like to lose stuff! At least they lost my stuff being shipped here in the states. It was just small parts and wasn't really worth insuring but it still cost me about 50 bucks to refund to the buyer...

I dont think australia is the problem, its the USPS that causes most of it. The forms take forever to fill out and they sock it to you on the price to ship out of the country. Just a medium sized part cost almost 100.00 to ship to canada, maybe 400 miles from where I live. The out of country scams dont help either, I get maybe 15 of them each week in emails. Your best bet would to be to get to know one american guy to buy for you and ship to you, would be alot easier. Just a idea.

I've shipped to Germany and Russia with no problems. I'm not thrilled with spending the time to fill out the paperwork to ship a cheap part overseas, but as Aussie Coronet says, their dollars are as good as ours. As long as somebody out of the US wants to pay the ride, I'll sell to them.

Mate, I hear you but I would think the scammers are pretty easy to spot, plus if the buyer is paying by Paypal and you don't ship the item until its paid for, how can you be scammed? He may come back and say 'item never arrived!' but unless you're a crook it will be USPS's fault, not yours and Paypal can look after the customer, it aint your problem.

As for the price of shipping, it shouldn't matter if it costs $10,000 to post the item, if the buyer is happy to pay for it then so be it, you're not paying for it anyway.

The chrome parts I ordered were in a box about the size of a small old style TV....cost me $60 US, it still worked out a lot cheaper than trying to source the parts locally.

As for a contact in the US to buy parts on my behalf, yeah that would be great and I'm sure there'd be no shortage of honest blokes here who would help but it is extra work and who has the time anymore?

Buy my 66 Hemi car.

I have shipped stuff to Australia and it was no big deal. Sure you have to fill out an international form but I managed and the parts got there just fine.

Isn't it difficult driving a left-driver vehicle there?

I find it quite easy, you get used to it pretty quickly. Any cars that are 30 years old or older don't have to be converted to RHD so most older muscle cars remain LHD though there are many that have been here for decades and have been converted.

I think having a LHD car adds to the experience and novelty of these cars.

i shipped to australia a few times as well with no problems. product engineering fuel pumps, and star vacuum pumps. shipping wasnt too crazy either. usps is the only way to go. ill do it again.

I've shiped to Canada and England, and my wife has shipped all over the world. BY FAR Canada is the WORST. There's about 4 pages of forms, making you swear you're not shipping bird feathers or any advertizing for any items sold in Canada, which might include pricing (this applies to packaging material like newspaper). UPS apparently charges a high fee to deliver unless you specifically decline home delivery(?), there is an additional tax based on the value of the item, which the buyer is responsibe for, but the shipper must declare, and to top it all of, there's currently a postal strike.

By chance I ran into a guy from New Zealand at a backwater post office and while waiting in line, he told me a long story about Canada contracting with some other counrty to revamp it's postal server, but they screwed it all up, and now they were trying to get his country to help.....

I have a buddy in NZ, i buy parts for all the time. Just work something out with someone, then have them ship to you.

International shipping....

I've shipped to Australia, (and other countrys), several time with no problems and even reasonable rates via USPS. Forms and even postage can be done on-line at the USPS site... just a trip to the post office to drop it off.

If a seller wont ship outside the US perhaps someone might be able to purchase the item and then ship.... I'm sure theres folks here that would try that for ya.

Aussie Coronet is right about PayPal being almost scammer proof.... It's the only way to accept International payments.

I do refuse to use UPS or Fedex... Unless you want a guarantee it will arrive damaged.

Canada is the worst ..... I think there is a huge "BLACK HOLE" where everything going into or out of Canada is stashed for just long enough to make you thing your stuff is lost forever....

I used to work at a very large resort complex where the vehicle fleet was 90% ex-postal Jeeps- all RHD. That was fun- especially when we went into town down the lonely 75 MPH (to us) country roads in those short wheelbase 1500 LB things. Driving in traffic was fun too. Roads with too much crown sucked, though. Believe it or not, those AMC 6 bangers make those DJs FLY!

Thanks for all the replies and it's great to see some positive attitudes in regards to shipping downunder.

I've had a couple of guys PM me offering to help and that's great, after all we are in this together and if we stick together, look after eachother, then the hobby will be so much more enjoyable and attractive, which means more people into these cars, more parts being made and sold which equals less cost to all concerned!

Plus, you never know, something might crop up down here that one of you blokes would like and I'd be only to happy to help you out.

Aussie, I don't normally list that I sell out of country on any of my e-bay listings, but if the interested buyer will ask, I almost always tell them I will do so, since I then know there's a real interest. I've shipped everywhere you can imagine with the exception of a few old Soviet block countries and china. Only place I've really been ripped off was a BMW dash to a sailor in Samoa. Also I have a couple of guys I've sold to many times over the years who will now check with me before buying, grab a few sales and have them all shipped to my house, and I will re-package and send on to Oz and Germany. If you need help, add me to your list.

That's true, I have asked sellers before that state in their descriptions "United States only" if they will ship to Australia but some, like the Grant steering wheel in my first post, won't even let you contact the seller, I think it's one of Ebays quirks that a lot of people don't know about.

Sold a used Holley Intake on Ebay. One of my first experiences with selling. Didn't think about someone from overseas buying it. A guy from Australia bought it and gave me his shipping info. I didnt care one bit to ship it to him. He bought it for around 75 bucks and I quoted 25 to ship I think. Was told it was too big to ship USPS so I went to UPS. They wanted nearly $300 just for shipping. Fortunately I was able to ship to a friend of his in CA and he got his part. Everyone happy.
