i have a 67 coronet i want to convert non power steering column to a power steering column any kind of kits out there? thanks

I would stick with manual steering. I have power steering and hate it. Every little bump jerks the wheel if you don't have a death grip on it and highway driving is scary.

The column for power steering is shorter than non power so no kits are available....but I have modified existing columns before by cutting and welding.

I don't get the death grip deal. I've owned many of these old cars both with power and without and none of them drove bad unless something was wrong. My first car was a 66 Belvedere bought new by my sister and I ended up with it in late 68 and I have a 66 Belvedere now. There are many on the drag strip too doing well over 100 mph. My 71 Duster ran 134 in the 1/4 and driving it was a breeze. It doesn't matter if it's manual or power.....if it doesn't drive right, you need to have it looked at by someone that knows what they are doing.

thanks crank, would you know the measurements for a power steering column. thanks

I just rebuilt a colum with parts and used a column adaptor available through flaming river to change over to manual steering

Here is a link to a tech article adressing the "light road feel" of the original power steering systems on the Mopars.

As it states the "A" body cars used a lower pressure valve in the pump which will increase the effort and bring back the road feel a little. An easy fix.
I haven't tried this yet but intend to. No need to change the pump, only the valve assy in the pump.

I have a 67 column out from a Coronet with ps....I can give you a measurement from the wheel to the bottom of the shaft if that will help. IIRC, the shaft is about 2" shorter than a manual shaft. The car is at my nephew's shop and I can measure the steering box from the centerline of the pitman shaft to the end of the input and compare that to a manual box which I also have.....or maybe someone knows that info already? I plan on going to the shop sometime tomorrow.

Johnny, I recently did this same swap and it was much simplified once I called Mancini Racing and had them ship me a new coupler complete with a U-joint, and the upper end has the 3/4" DD recess with a set screw.

It took 30 minutes to cut the stock shaft; install the new coupler; and I even tigged a couple spots just for good measure. The unit looks clean and is easy to service.

Cool! didn't know that was available!

Here's a pic of the coupler, after installation.

Also note, I make the bushings for the steering column too. I got tired of the cheap Chinese junk bushings and started making them from Delrin.

After I made one for my car, my buddies started requesting them, so, in my spare time, I cut some for other enthusiasts who might want a bushing that will outlast their car.

Here's a link to get you started and remember, this unit can be used to swap either units, and they also sell the short adapters if you need 'em.

I hope this helps,
