Hey, I'm new here, been over at FABO I just purchased a 69 340, 4spd Swinger. My second car as a senior in high school was my uncles 69 383 4spd Road Runner HT. I have also owned a 73 318 (440) Challenger. The E & B bodies are long gone however I just got a tip today on a 68 HEMI GTX. I don't know yet if it's a 4 spd or auto. The guy wants a $500 finders fee before he gives me the contact info. I was thinking of drawing up a contract with him, something like if I can't seal the deal he gets no money. What is customary for this type of thing?

Welcome to the site, ..............be careful on these finders fee things, I could make a million on showing folks where the rare Mopars are hiding at, but the catch is are they for sale, No , most of them can't be bought or they want 4 times the actual worth of the car. ,catch my drift, it's a touchy situation.

The guy says it is for sale, no motor or trans, but they are available. Like I said before I'm thinking no sale no money.

Most finder's fees are generally paid only if the sale goes through. And it sounds like if he wants the cash up front, a contract might be the best way to go.

I received a picture today. It looks like there is a HEMI badge on the right rear of the deck lid. I'm still trying to decide how much cash I should show up with to let the old codger know I'm serious.

I'd show up with at least $10K if the car was really there... and a pistol under my coat.

I would only agree to a finder's fee if I got the car bought. The owner and broker could easily be working a scam. The pic itself could've been grabbed from the internet to use as bait. Be careful here.

Welcome to the site. Working through a third party could very well be a scam. For sure it's a PITA. Good luck

I think I'll be able to pass up on paying any finders fee. Based on where the guy (finder) told me lives and that he drives by the car everyday, I was able to locate the GTX using the local county aerial tax maps online. I can see the back half of the GTX sticking out from under the awning. Now I have to start working on the wife, get that cleared then start the pursuit.

I'd post the aerial but that would give the location away and I would have to be asking for a finders fee. :p

You'd better get the wife's approval quick. I know several guys who could find that car just by what you've posted so far along with a little digging into your location/personal info and Google maps. Luckily for you, I'm not one of them... anymore

I found a 63 Savoy post in the high desert of California that way because a guy refused to tell me where it was, but did give a general location and some other little bits of info. So, I went looking for it from the comfort of my chair...

Well I met the owner of the GTX today. He was pissed to say the least. The guy that wanted the finders fee from me has been doing this for a few years now. He tries to get the money up front and just scamming people. The car is there, it's not for sale (never will be), it is a real HEMI 4 spd. He wouldn't even let me in the back yard. He told me he has a restraining order on this character. Before I left I gave him my information in case the police wanted to talk to me about this scum bag. I also polity apologized and told him if he ever reconsidered to contact me.

Told you, ....but I would have done the same thing and checked it out.
