71 72 satellite hood swap

I tried to look around some but could not find an answer for this.

I am looking at buying a 1971 Satellite which has the original plain hood. I really like the roadrunner hoods with the 2 engine number bezels. I have been searching for parts to make sure i can get them before purchasing the car. Will the 72 hoods fit a 71 model car?

Also what is the proper name for this type of hood, it may make my searching easier?

I am pretty sure they were wanting to clone the car into a RR the engine was swapped to a 383.

i am pretty sure the 71-72 hoods are interchangable...the hood with the inserts/call outs are roadrunner hoods.

Welcome to the forum - hope you stay a while and post pics after you find your car. 71 and 72 hoods are the same. You can turn a Satellite hood into an Air Grabber since it's the same style that was used for AG units, but the AG itself will cost dearly. A decent RR hood with the twin callout bezels will cost less but still be in the $400 and up range.

To expand on what Bigred said, the 'plain' SSP hood is the basis for the Air Grabber hood, but you have to cut it, get the bracing, and of course the fiberglass buldge and all the hardware, (which I think runs close to $2,000 for the whole setup?)

The 'dual bulge' hood is the 'cheap' way to go.
