I am going to look at a 66 charger tonight and need some honest opinions/advice on what to pay for it. The owner wants 8500 and has already had an offer of 6000 that they said was way to low. I was not really looking for a car as my 65 Sport Fury is currently in the body shop and close to getting painted. Then I have the wife's 70 Coronet we are working on ourselves. I miss not having something to drive to shows. I am thinking of offereing 7000 and no more than 7500 and 7500 may be high. I'm not looking for another project car. While the Charger needs some work. I am ok with throwing some seat covers, not recovering the seats and driving it. It looks like the paint is chipped and faded in spots. It looks like the dash lights work. Which I know is a bit of an issue with them. Below is the link to pictures of the car.

Thanks

If you think it's a #3 car-

That interior doesn't look correct, obviously the engine bay is not correct.
Repair around rear windshield is coming back out (but at least he's pointing it out).

Check the frame horns, crossmembers, and the usual 66/67 (and Charger specifc) problem areas.

It would have to be a little nicer than that to get my 7-8K

Thanks for the info guys. It will help me on making a decision.

it's not an $8K car as it sits right now...exterior color is supposed to be silver

interior looks correct, but badly worn
eng compartment looks correct from what I can see, but wrong color

Red dash and carpet with white seats?

I've never seen that.

I can't find any here-

That link I posted- the 74 in Orlando is a 400 rallye car with a/c, cruise, and a sunroof in black with the red strobe stripe, and it's shiny as hell. If I had 7K, my money would go here.

If the 66 had one of the following- either a really nice engine bay that was the correct color with a clean engine, or- a really nice interior that didn't look like it was painted with a spray can and without filthy yellow seat covers...IMO, it'd be a lot closer in value to that 8K number.

I think it is about a $5,000 car. Seat covers are almost $600 ,carpet kit around $500 for a good one with all the right pieces. No door panels or other interior parts are made. Keep looking they are out there.

well it's sitting in the driveway. It is supposed to be a silver car (AA1HQ) with Red Interior. The paint is rough. But that is because the red paint job wasn't done all that well. Even though they painted the jams and the trunk. The engine compartment was painted black. Someone along the way put the white interior in it. The car has very little rust. Other than the pics where it is pointed out. It is for lack of a better term rust free. It came with a good deal of paperwork on repairs it's had done through the years. The headlamp covers work and the motors rebuilt. The gauges were redone. Oddly enough by Shafi Keisler (long before he was doing transmissions). The paperwork, headlamp motors and gauges were a big reason on getting it. It was cared for mechanically and the body is in great shape. Oh and the owner and I are alumni of the same automotive trade school in Detriot (Motech). Also there are extra parts that came with it including an additional magnum wheel for the spare. All the trunk side panels are there. as well as the original jack. Runs and drives great. The A/C was converted to 134 as well. I could go on and on. Paid 7k for it. I'm quite happy with the deal.

Nice buy!Looks like you did very well on it.

Too much for me, as well.

I'd have said 5-6K max, but the OP is happy and it sounds more solid than the pics might indicate.

Working a/c in FL sure adds value, especially with 95*+ (and 99% humidity) weather right around the corner.

Hey, take it easy. The OP BOUGHT the car so HE obviously thinks it is worth it. That comment is uncalled for.

I just said FOR THAT PRICE. Aint no way it's worth that. I look at it like this. How much money would it take to make the car NICE? It's gonna 5K or more. Givin somebody 8K for a car that needs 5K or more worth of work. He asked for opinions. That was mine. For a lot less money, it's a nice car.

Yup and that's all that counts.

I think you are wrong. What is your personal experience with these cars?

I have a friend in Warner Robins Georgia that has an original 66 Hemi Charger. Barry Jones. Done a lot of work on that car. Does that count?

seemed a bit pricey in my book.picked up my current project(67 coronet 440)in about the same condition for $3200.same motor, trans, and almost rust free.all depends on the buyer of course.want vs time willing to spend looking i guess.
