I have what I believe is a power lock carrier out of a dana 60. have any of you used one or know if they are worth using? I believe it is from a 1965 model (what seems to be a date stamp on the carrier) it has 4.10 gears and the pinion gear has a corse spline shaft.any info would be great. oh it is a two peice carrier if that helps.

Hell yeah the power lock is the strongest clutch type limited slip made. That's what the Moroso brute strength posi is designed after.

good to know, I had the housing narrowed and a spool installed so I have this left over. it seems to be in pretty good shape and the gears have a good pattern on them as well.maybe i will be putting this up on the for sale forum.

The things that I don't like about the Power Lock is the smallish thrust pin and the smallish spider gears but if you get the axle end play set right, the thrust pin shouldn't be a problem but make sure it's still in there because if it's not, you'll never get the axle end play set. Also, if it ever starts to single track, pull it out and fix it because the spider gears won't take that for very long.

Date would be mfg 65 for 66 model year, first use in passenger car.

The spider gears might be small, but there are 4 as compared to two.
Being a 60, it's much stronger than the one for the 8 3/4....but, it still only has 2 spiders. The other 2 are 'side' gears which the axles slip into. The 8 3/4 Power Lock is built exactly the same way. Even the cone type has 2 spiders and 2 side gears....

so it is worth selling? Cranky, I am not very familiar with carriers, can I disassemble it to check condition without disturbing anything? If so, what should I look for? what about the course spline pinion gear set, is it weak? I have the yoke to go with it so it should be worth something to someone.

There's really nothing weak about a Dana 60 but that being said, you can still abuse anything to where it become junk, however, the 60 will take much more abuse and will generally last much longer than any 8 3/4. I'll post a pic showing the size difference between the 8 3/4 and the Dana 60 Power Lock in a minute...the 60 is on the left.

Really? I was not aware of that. I figured bein bigger than the 8 3/4 it would have 4 pinions as well. Thanks. Learn sumffin new everyday.

Ya know, you're right and I'm wrong. There are 4 pinons along with 2 side gears....sorry. However, when the PL wears to the point that the clutches allow it to become a single track, the spiders will take the brunt and they die fast. Anyways, got to thinking that it has 2 cross shafts like an X....and thus has 4 spiders. My bad :violent1: on myself

LOL. I just got done tellin another member that I had no experience with the Dana 60. Now we see the proof. LMAO

Bad thing about it is that I do have experience with them....but it has been awhile since putting any together.....probably been 4 or 5 years and the last one I did got a spool.

Im in the same boat as ill be selling mine since I upgraded to a locker.
You're going to be selling a Dana 60 Power Lock?

got to looking at mine and the strange thing is it seems to have 17spline side gears? that can't be right, can it? the rear end was a truck unit with floating axles. I know you can replace the side gears the more I look at this the more confused I become( not that that is a difficult thing to do )

Yup, a truck unit and yes, you can replace the side gears. You just have to take it all apart to swap them out. Is it 17 spline or 16? Don't remember what it should be but I have one of those laying around for parts....you'll also need the cross shaft with the hole in it for the thrust pin if you want to use it in a car.

looking to get rid of it honestly, have no need for it. I will put it up on the sale forum what do they go for? 50.00 100.00? or boat anchor.

Yea mines also for a truck and its a 30 spline. With having a locker now dont really need it plus it has the 4.10 gearz on it too.

I just heard from the diff shop what I was told were 4.56 gears turned out to be 5.38! not what I was looking for.... so now back to 4.10. I suppose a little more street friendly.
