Putting my refinished stuff back on my engine. Put valley pan on and can't seem to get intake lined up. I get two bolts started in one side and the other side doesn't line up. I got one bolt started and tried tightening it and I could see it was putting grooves in the lower part of the hole in the manifold. I can get bolts started in either side but only one side at a time. Tried to kinda lift manifold and split the difference but can't hold the manifold up and start a bolt in both sides at once. :angry1:. It's been a real lot of years since I did this last and it wasn't on a mopar. I know it can't be that hard, am I just stupid? Is there a trick or am I missing something here? :tard: :BangHead: P3051733.jpg And no I wasn't trying to put it on with those bolts in there :)

Did the old valley pan have the fiber gaskets on one or both sides. If not you might just have to use RTV and pass on the paper.

xs 2 . i wouldnt and dont use any gaskets other than the valley pan itself on factory spec stuff. once the intake is torqued down, the valley pan alone is more than sufficient .

It's the same valley pan, just painted and it had gaskets on both sides.

I've never even seen a valley pan gasket with anything but the raised metal ribs. I've only used that type and never had a problem. Didn't even know there was another type.

You know the valley pan is ribbed is for your protection and her pleasure right?

did you do any machine work to the heads or block?if they have been milled it could be your problem.

Say whaaaat? Does the intake seem like its not wide enough? I know your not trying to put a b engine intake on an rb engine. Only other thing is somebody has decked the hell out of the heads and maybe the block.

Looks like Max Wedge ports in those gaskets. What kind of Manifold is being used? If you are using a max wedge set up then get rid of the metal pan and only use one gasket and silicone the hell out of the front and rear.

Chunk the gaskets. The valley pan IS the gasket. I always use copper coat or something similar on the valley pan, much the same as a steel shim head gasket. And you seem pretty sharp to me. I don't think you're stupid. For whatever that's worth.

No machine work same intake I took off a couple months ago. P2191728.jpg

No it seems like it to wide, but it came off so it's gotta go back on.

No machine work and its the same intake. I think it must be sitting a little crooked. They can be a little tricky some times. Keep working at it. Losing the paper gaskets will help, especially if they are slipping and moving around while you try and position the intake.

If its too wide, then it is sitting up too high. Lose the paper and i bet that sum bitch falls right into place

Really, they aren't supposed to use gaskets? Mine is a 400 and the gasket kit came with two gaskets per side, maybe I'm a dum *** to.

sometimes old valley pans will warp up a bit.i have had someone stand on the carb mount to get an intake to push down into place before.the paper gaskets are to get a better seal when using aluminum intakes.they torque to a lower spec than cast iron so wont crush the metal valley pan well.sealant will work, just use a good coppercoat not rtv.

x 10 on the gaskets toss em and use rtv, mine wouldnt fit with the gaskets either

No gaskets just sealer huh, well thurs will be the next time I have a chance to get on it and I'll see if I can get an extra set of hands. rtv, no rtv, coppercote, lol I'll stick sum sealing **** on thar :)

I have a new valley pan set with gaskets......now you guys are scaring me....lol.

When you took it apart, were there paper gaskets there ? Probably not, because there wouldn't be. Barring machine work that throws off the geometry, paper gaskets aren't used. They're supplied with the valley pan in case you need it.
