Which next gen hemi is better?

See now I just would never pay that. A hotwire harness is 1K, the computer you can buy used from a salvage yard for $150, you could have bought a 5.7 that either didn't need help or had an issue with a good block and heads for under 1k easily. I paid $75 for my alternator, already had a water pump on the engine, and the only thing it was missing was the tension-er which cost me $15. Came with a wiring harness, computer, intake, all injectors, throttle body, etc etc...for $600.

Now If I had a budget of $6000 that would have paid to have it up and running, a stroker crank, new pistons and rods, machining, intake, oil pan, etc...I'd have a stroker of some sort. Though i also have to say, I have less than your motor budget in my whole car so far if you count my dealings with parts cars. So I'd tell you, yeah you got screwed even if you didn't get hosed just because my broke perspective is skewed.

your broke perspective...your putting a hemi in your car.LOL thats what makes this site awesome. you get to see how people go about it there way. i thought my 6.1 was a decent deal since it only got 4k miles on it, looks brand new. i watching your progress too, hope it turns out sweet. as budget goes i really wanted a 528 HEMI but $20-$25k was out of the question. thats why i went this route plus reliability. im following alot of these builds and getting alot of info from all you guys. good luck on the builds and i will keep you posted when i start mine.

See now here is the rub on that. I bought (2) 360's to build and both turned out to be trash (already 0.060 over and needed a bore). I started adding up numbers, cost of rebuild...parts ect and I couldn't come out cheaper then the late model hemi with the same horsepower numbers. So I just kept my eye open for a late model that didn't need a rebuild...just happened to fall into one hell of a deal with a guy who needed it out of his shop. My original purchase price came down from 1000 to 800 and then when I got there for fear of cyl rust I talked him down another $200 (we coudlnt get it to turn over). I got it home and tossed some oil in the cylinders and it spun like a dream (just dry). So I ended up doing even better then planned. But I was looking at $2500 for the 360 and to make around 350 hp and 400 ft lbs.....stock hemi is 345hp/375ft lbs and without some of the accessories, headers, and dual exhaust i bet its more like 370/400. and all for $600+330+200+100+75+15+80+150 = $1550ish without fuel lines but that includes the engine, hotwire harness, computer tuning, alternator, tensioner, flywheel, and clutch kit. (yeah I did some shopping around a bit)

And are you near chicago in Il? Wondered if you are heading to the Mo-power show May 19th at the Dupage county fair grounds? I hope to be driving the car there but doubt it due to some setbacks (sick, welder, etc) But either way ill be there and probably selling coronet parts again.

i usually go but this year my buddy is getting married. he usually goes with me, so no i wont be at this one. will be at belvidere il and dubuque, ia

is the 2006 5.7 a good option for me too put in my 1970 belvedere? i found a 2006 or 2007 300 that was hit in the back door and totaled out i can buy the whole car for 2k..it has very low miles and starts up and runs and u can lot drive the car..my dream is too put a modern hemi in my car, and this engines in my price range and not far from me..what do u guys think about it? any help on which way to go would be awesome..i have no plans on racing my car or anything like that..mainly i just want a cruiser and something reliable, low maintenance and maby 300-400 horsepower..i really like the gen 3 and gen 4 hemis, theres plenty of aftermarket stuff for then and there easily tuneable..
