Did b-bodys with manual drum brakes use a reinforcement plate behind the master cylinder where it bolts to the firewall? Thanks

in my very unqualified opinion, it doesnt look like it. im sure somebody with more knowledge than I will chime in...

Mar,

Your picture actually shows the backing plate. It's the angled cut thing with ribs down the side that the wiring clip is hanging off of. That is a separate piece that bolts through the firewall and came with all B bodies regardless of power or manual brakes. It came from the factory painted black. It looks like yours got painted over when the car was repainted.

Short answer, yes, at least on my 64 440. Hopefully these pics will help show it. In the pics the plate is still black while my car is in various colors around it prior to paint and body...kinda nice to have the contrast for this particular explanation.

Still learning as I'm going everyday too Amigo.

Well.........Finishing off a Summer Shandy and going horizontal. Have a good one!

Both power and manual brakes have a backing plate but they are different between the two.
The blue one is correct for 66-70 manual brakes
