Brought home my 68 Runner first part of February. First thing I did was go to DMV and transfer the title and order collector plates. The title arrived a couple weeks later. Last week I got to looking and I still had not received the plate! Back to the DMV last Saturday. They looked it up and it still had not been processed! The nice lady called the state Monday morning and then called me. Plate is being processed and I should get it in 3-4 weeks! Good thing it is not road worthy yet!

Maybe ther recruited from Califronia. 8 trips to DMV for YOM plates here.

In MN, you actually get a "nice lady" to help you figure out the snafu.

Here in CA, you'd be waiting in line at the DMV for 3-4 weeks. :)

I normally run over there on my break at work, just across the street, and it's usually in and out nice and quick. Saturday all the bikers, myself included, were getting tabs for their bikes since we finally had a nice enough day to ride. Stood in line for a good half hour.

As I understand it in MN all old cars must have collector plates, therefore the usage is restricted. I.E. you can't commute in it, and if you do drive it you must be going to or from a car show. Now, you probably don't want to drive it for fear of turning into a pile of rust, but to me that seems like the gov't (nice lady and all) has over stepped their bounds. Perhaps when the gov't pays my reg and insurance maybe then they can tell me when to drive my car!!!

sounds a lot IL.

collector plates=to and fro from a show, to and fro from the mechanic, to and fro from a "sanctioned event."

i was told that one could "link" an old plate to a new one, but you could only do it with collector plates.:jerk:

funk all that. so i gots me regular plates....

but i have been known to run '68 plates every once and a while anyways :icon_fU:

i have Hagerty for the insurance and they are quite lenient on coverage. IE drive wherever you darn well please! :upside down::upside down::upside down:

I never heard of such a thing. Well, maybe if one has the option to get collector plates, then there may be rules, but being forced to get them is down right........I better stop so this doesn't end up in the political section! Good for you for getting normal plates! And it figures your plate has a number "69" in it.

they have the same restrictions on antique car plates here, so i just got regular plates..

YOM black plates here. More miles a year than the new Challenger and Charger. Combined.

Did you check out IL's YOM program Mar?

Sounds like as long as you register with the IL antique plates you can put YOM plates on your Mopar as long as you keep the IL issued antique plates in the car for inspection.
NOTES: YOM registration is not permitted, but display of YOM plates on vehicles qualifying as Antique Vehicles is permitted provided that valid, current Antique Vehicle plates and registration are kept in the vehicle at all times. The following is quoted from the above website:

Antique Vehicle license plates may be displayed on passenger vehicles, trucks and vans weighing 8,000 pounds or less, sport utility vehicles and motorcycles. To qualify for Antique Plates, motor vehicles, including motorcycles, must be more than 25 years old. Firefighting vehicles must be at least 20 years old.
Historical License Plates, representing the model year, may be displayed on an antique vehicle, provided the owner has valid, current Antique Vehicle Plates. Plates and registration must be kept in the vehicle at all times

IL also has Expanded use antique plates check this out: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/vehicles/license_plate_guide/antiqueexpand.html
Drive it when are where ever the hell you want to between 1 Apr and 30 Oct. Prices range from $51 for random to $145 for vanity

Interesting stuff about IL law here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=181273

I have some black plates for mine along with the YOM sticker, but haven't done the plate transfer yet.....I hear it cost like 35 bucks to do it.

I don't go to Ca. DMV & stand in line or wait all freaken' day anymore, "unless I absolutely have too"............. I either do it all online or go to my AAA insurance agent & they do it for me @ their insurance office, no waiting & no hassles, especially with all the stupid regular A-typical slow/lazy rude govt. employee types, that's usually with probably at-least 10 people always on a break, doing nothing in plane sight, with only 2 windows open, with long lines of people, going out the door, dealing with the lame Ca. DMV employees.... {even if you have an appointment, it's pretty freaken' sad}

8 trips to DMV. Had to put the 69 sticker on in front of them right there. Do your research, see the thread on Moparts. I did this before I was banned there. Make sure the plates are "clean.
