67 Satellite "Silver Special" project

So I figured I'd start a build thread since I have some work to do on my 67 Satty., so here's some pics/info of what Im starting with.
With a LOT of your assistance I was able to decode the data plate/vin and this is what follows;
67 Satty, (RP (premium)), special ordered
auto, 383 4bbl, buddy bucket console, AC, PS, PB, Sure Grip rear end 3.55, AA1 silver met paint, two-tone interior (red and white) western scroll, fender mounted bullet turn signals, remote mirror, trunk light, stripe delete, day/nite mirror, armrest with ashtrays in back, deluxe AM radio (speakers in kick panels and tray), all glass tinted, 26" rad, chrome belt line moldings, etc pretty much loaded.
Im not really sure if any/all of these options make it "rare" or not, a member with a knowledge of the numbers might be able to tell me (?)

it was built in St. louis and has always been/and is a Kansas car, its been in storage now for many, many years until I scooped it up.

Its a pretty clean car with small, light spots of surface rust, BUT, it's still wearing a lot of its orig paint, inside and out.
The worst rust is in the front passenger floor board and front driver floorboard, also the passenger bottom quarter panel. Other than that fairly straight.

at some point in its life the orig 383 4bbl was pulled and a 440 was swapped in (but the swap wasn't completed), the front buckets seats were removed and the buddy bucket console was taken.
the guy I got it from had located and included another pair of correct buckets and buddy bucket console (wrong color though).

the first thing I did was sort out what was present/missing, then a few days with some 409 and scrub brush, really helped to clean up the doors.
i used some Meguiar's Ultimate Compound on the door paint and chrome, it really brought it around.

I ordered my floor pans and lower quarter and FINALLY got them, so, Ill begin cutting out the floor pans, lower quarters VERY soon.

Whoever did the 440 swap just dropped the motor/trans in place.
I've been busy;
changing the water pump housing to the correct drivers side for my radiator.
hooking up rad hoses, running all the wires for the alt., oil pressure unit (for idiot light), temp sending unit, starter, alt reg, starter relay, wiper pump, plug wires, etc.
As well as routing all the necessary hoses. And all the linkage for carb, trans, kick down etc.
Also basic maintenance.

basic plans for the car now are more modern upgrades like discs on all 4 corners, subframe connectors, sway bars, coil overs etc. I'm going to go with silver paint and the red/white interior again.

The interior was dusty dirty from siting but for the most part, all there. Its taken a LOT of scrubbing to get this far and there's still a bunch left, I need to reupholstered pretty much everything. image.jpg

Why is this car being called a "Silver Special". I have heard of "Silver Editions" but not any "Silver Specials". "Silver Editions" had special material on the seats and sometimes matching on the top. This car has neither.

That is a very interesting car, my friend.

I bet it's pretty as hell when all done and shiny.
(in a manly "pretty" way, of course)

Never heard of factory speakers in the kick panels, though.

I've never heard of "silver editions" before,
but I'm calling her "silver special" because of paint code AA1,
and she's a special order.

" Silver Editions" were put out in the front lot at the dealership to pull peole in off the street. Once the people were on the lot the salesman would try to sell a GTX or a higher priced car to the customer. Silver Editions were not always painted silver, but they all had the dark blue vinal incerts in the silver seats. The dark blue incerts also was a course grain with silver down into the grain. Vinal tops were the same material, dark blue with silver down in the grain. Not all "Silver Editions had vinal tops and you could get ANY motor in them.

Interesting...Got a pic?
are the "silver editions" denoted on the vin or data plate?

i agree, my plans were completely different when I picked her up, but after some research (with the sites assistance) I made the decision to go with the orig colors inside/out, I think it'll be really sharp.

Ill snap some pics of the kick panels, they're a regular molded panel, not cut or custom, they've seen better days and the speaker grills are missing, I'm betting I'm going to have a heck of a time finding some. I'm just hoping they'll be the same on a valiant, fury, coronet, etc.

Well my 67 went under the knife today for surgery, here's what I started with;
And the surgery in progress;

Somebody call the flintstones!!!!

I was skeptical that the Rock Auto floor pans would work, the sticker on them says "66-70 Charge",
for the Charger perhaps?
i thought they sent me the wrong pans BUT they dropped in and were a perfect match!
After cutting out the rust and remaining floor pan and test fitting, test fitting, test fitting...oh! And test fitting some more they drop right in perfectly, I've got some slight trimming to do on the new pan but ill be ready to burn them in tomm.

I measured my factory tack welds and they appear to be 2"-2 1/2" apart, I just want to verify that this is correct? If someone knows off the top of their head...

Those DO look pretty good.

They're not to bad, I've got acouple spots I need to slightly tweak to reduce my gap, for a better fit and easier weld.
i started burning her in today...
I drilled my holes in the new pan so I can do the "factory look" spots welds, measure, measure, measure, drill, weld...repeat.
i wonder if the guys on the Plymouth factory line were really concerned about these spot welds lol

220, 225 whatever it takes LOL

I imagine it was a range and dependent on the guy making the welds unless that was a robot spot weld area
