New Guy Introduction

Hello, just joined today. I am a former 1968 GTX owner and Mopar fan for years. Had to sell it but now that I am retired I want to get a GTX back. I am trying to decide if I want to get a project car (this will be my first project) or buy one already restored.

I found a GTX w/o a motor and trans. Body looks good w/some rust. What would the value of the car be if restored with period correct engine and trans but not numbers matching or does that matter?

welcome to FBBO, good luck with your search for a 68 GTX, one of my all time favorite.... I guess it really depends on your budget, your abilities, your knowledge base & tolls... I would suggest to possibly try to find or buy a car that is almost finished & put your personal touches on it to complete it, you will be able to enjoy the car much sooner & could save some money too buying a project someone else bailed on... Just my thoughts, good luck what ever your choose to do, I've done many from ground up restorations, to just mild bolt on type customs or full on race cars....

Howdy, I think if this would be your first project you have to ask yourself AM I looking for a hands on project to fill the time my job took. Or am I wanting to connect with friends at a local cruise night. I like to do both, but I have finished cars and projects. I used to get more out of car shows and cruise nights, but now I seem to enjoy hanging out at my shop building cars. I made a ton of friends at car shows and cruise nights, and they come by the Chicken Coop and hang out now. So if the social thing appeals to you, I would go for a finished car to put your personnel touches on.

If I didn't have any cars and was starting fresh I'd definitely go for a done car and put some touches on it vs full on build. Now is a great time to be buying someone else's rotisserie restored done car. Think of it as buying it new and doing so day 2 stuff to an original if you want.
