New Chainsaw - Any Recommendations

Just to add my 2 cents to the conversation, the company I work for have used Stihl chainsaws for as long as I can remember and the things get absolutely abused by the guys and they seem to keep working on and on which I think says a lot about quality and durability. I'm sure the other brands mentioned are good also but I have never been around them so I can't comment on them.
 
Look at it this way; "When have you ever heard anyone complain that they bought a Stihl?" Are Johnsered, Husquavarna, Poulan... good saws? Yep!!! But, Stihl is known, dealers are common in many areas. I would say, that if you have dealers of the various brands close, then you really won't go wrong with any of them as long as you buy the good stuff, not the cheap crap.
 
I have a Stihl weed eater that's a POS.....and the Crapsman that it replaced lasted twice as long for 1/2 the price.
 
I've had 2 Stihl saws for 20 years now. They have been used and abused and never let me down.
 
I've got a 16" store brand chainsaw about eight years ago. I already had a hand-me-down from my dad (an old McCulloch). I decided to get a plug in electric instead of gas, and haven't had any regrets. Even if I have to use 300' of extension cord around my property, this electric saw has kept going with lots of power. It's quiet, only runs when you pull the trigger, doesn't need mixed fuel to be kept around and I can use it inside the wood storage shed with no fumes. I haven't started the old gas saw once since I got the electric one. Best $90 yard tool I ever bought.
 
Husqvarna are good saws for the money but if you don't want to buy another in 5 years go with a Stihl.
 
Stihl makes a really good Quality Saw. It is more money then the competition but I can tell you it is a great product.. I also wonder if Husquevarna should be looked at they where know for quality.
 
I work at a sawmill where we run Husky's 385's and I run them at home "I'm a husky fan". My neighbor has worked for a few tree clearing companies where saws are put to the test, according to him Jonsred (what they ran), Stihl and Husky's are all great saws "period". What matters more than the brand is the grade that you buy "home owners or professional" you get what you pay for so avoid the Lowes, Tractor supply, Home Depot specials.
 
I have a McCulloch 10-10 rescued from the trash because of a broken handle starts on second pull its very loud, cuts wood. Interesting thing is McCulloch saws were bought by Chinese co. what was left was bought by husky not going to resurrect name but the blood line is there

Pulled the trigger and ordered mine this morning. Figured they would have one on hand but was told since the ice storm last week the dealer I went to alone has sold $70,000 in inventory and we only managed to find 2 with the authorized dealers network locally. They also are giving me the promotion that ended in November and throwing in a free case, extra chain and safety equipment

Once I have some hours in it I'll let you know my thoughts

Already came in... scored all the extras as promised along with a free 6 pack of 2 cycle oil, a litre of chain oil and an extra year warranty (for taking the free 2 cycle oil! lol)

I am the "WOOD BOSS" cuz it says so!

Good choice on the saw. I don't buy cheap junk tools because I don't have time for them. Note saw sticking out of wood pile in back of Power Wagon. 100_8116 (Large).jpg
 
where i work we have stihl they are a work horse, and echos are nice also. jmo
 
Never thought I would see a Canadian asking about chainsaws. Thought that was a DNA thing! LOL. Anyway, great advice here from everyone. Stihl, Husky, and McCullah are good choices. But one idea. My good friend, who is Canadian, buys only older saws from the 80's, and earlier. He rehabs them, and swears the durability is better than ANY brand that can be bought now, short of a professional grade.
