Corvette guy comes over to the dark side...

Kinda sounds like its laughing, until it starts then its just plain angry.

But you got to agree two cans of black spray paint would look a heck of a lot better than this skittles explosion in the engine bay! (I really wish he had the money to turn this roadrunner back to green - now that would be cool!)

Thanks to everybody for the warm welcome. Yes, Im a jokester, so I appreciate all the good natured ribbing you guys gave me. Its all good my brothers. Again, doing this for a friend makes the pain of working on a mopar a little bit easier.

NO, I wont drop a 350 in it!!! I do at least have a little bit of respect for this old war horse.

NOW, if I just could figure out how to get rid of the mopar whine of the starter and make it sound like God intended it, I just might be a mopar convert!!

OH GOD NO! LOL - stuff a 572 Hemi in there with headers and you will have to use a mini starter so no famous whine. by the way that was the sound that told you "you are about to have your doors blown off" lmao!

You could make it a Joker tribute car from Batman.....lol

Post the fender tag info here lets get this car figured out then go from there, sublime only looks good on a hand full of cars and a 70 RR is one of them, black go wing in the back and you are set.

ROFL!!! Nope. That "whine whine whine" sound is usually followed by these words:

"Anybody got a set of jumper cables?"

Got ya big man!

IF it was my car, I might just spend the time and money to make it back to original sublime or sassy or whatever it is and then do a restomod / pro touring car.

But Im already probably donating $5000 of time and materials to get this car running for my buddy. Im not going in the tank for a $10,000 paint job.

BTW - This is / was a factory A/C car. But missing some major parts and I know its probably another 2k to make it a working a/c so we are going to pass on that for now.

Then could I get your approval to just paint the engine compartment spray can flat black??

Everyone should have a friend like you.
If the car was originally green, that would be a nice color. I like green.
But yellow is good to, if the current paint suits him.
Two of my colors of choice anyway. But that's me.
Of course, the sensible thing to do in that case is simply paint the engine compartment to match.
And re-spray the body in some yellow.
Does it have to be a 10,000 paint job?
You have to get out of that Corvette big bucks mentality.
Free your mind.

No "Vette" for me.
A midlife Chrysler is better than midlife crisis. (credit to my son for that one)
I'd need Sissy Man Pearl Grey to match my hair.

I hear you onlyone. I would love to make this car green again, I love high impact colors! I have owned 6 different Competition Yellow Corvettes, when most vette guys think that color is too loud. Im ok with leaving this road runner yellow and we plan to paint the engine compartment yellow to match the body.

Re: $10,000 paint jobs. I know what a $3000 paint job looks like, and Im too picky for that quality. Im sure we would start by taking all the chrome trim off the car, then the doors and trunk, then would find rust in the 1/4's that would need fixed, then we would have the drive train out of the car and have it on a rotisserie to fully paint the body, top - bottom and inside - out. All of a sudden, a $3000 job turns into $10,000. PLUS, then nearly every other part of the car needs to be replated, repainted, replaced, rebuilt and then this car becomes a black hole of cash. Right now, all the parts that are "driver" quality and look ok as is, would look like pure crap with a good paint job, so a line has to be drawn somewhere. I thought that line was going to be with a blackout engine compartment and getting the car running and back on the road for the first time in 10 years. Then the "line" was going to be just a restored engine compartment, but dang, since the engine is out, its sure a good time to do all the suspension and steering components since we are right here!

A line has to be drawn somewhere, and for today, that line is going to be not doing a full paint job!

Corvettes are a pain to work on. You will find yourself liking how Mopars were engineered.

No way!!! We already have the "GOON" doing that.

About the paint job though? Could you just give it a good buffing? It doesn't look that bad in the pics.

YES! That is definitely my plan. Will probably actually do a 1200 grit wet sand followed by a water / compound buff and then start with the polish/wax. Its not great paint, but its thick and good and dried out now, so it will probably come out looking pretty darn good with the right amount of polishing.

Will need to do some airbrush touch up also as there are some nicks and dings in the paint on the door & trunk edges. But yellow is pretty forgiving and I think we can take it from a 20 footer to a five footer. Good enough for most mopar guys... :headbang:
