Well I have decided against switching my 69RR over to the 4 speed setup that came with it. I pulled it out and cleaned it up to see exactly what it was. When I got my car I got it with the 4 speed setup and 440 that came out of a 68 RR, this setup was not original to the car so I'm not sure of its origin. I have attached some pictures of the numbers I found but all I have found that the tailshaft casting numbers are from a 64-65 c-body but that doesn't make much since. So any help IDing this 4 speed would be great thanks.

Sounds good I will pull it out tonight and give them a count and let you know what I get. Would this be out of a B-Body or C or are they the same?

Great thanks for the help. It will be list in the for sale forums as soon as I can figure out what its worth..any ideas to its value?

unfortunately the '64-'65 ball and trunion probably won't commend the price of a '66 or later slip yoke. should be a 23 spline trans. on the upside if you can find somebody with a 64-65 resto project that would be the ticket. i hate to price somebody else's stuff. maybe somebody will chime in with a better priceing idea than me.

Sounds good thanks for the info. Ill do some research on pricing as it will be for sale

One more question, what issues would I have putting this in a 69 RR auto? Should it just be a normal 4 speed conversion or would there be other issues due to the age difference. Thanks

I put one of these in my 64 polara when I did the swap. as long as you have the correct driveline, you could make it work, but the correct slip yoke 4-speeds are not that hard to find and would suit your car better. I have heard some say they don't like these transmissions because the nuts come loose... I have never had a problem, but that's me.

I traded a 64 b-body transmission, with a broken ear on the front, an A-body complete one with a hole in the case, and another A-body one in pieces at a swap meet for a set of p/u tires.

I bought a rebuild kit from brewers, used all the best pieces and built one transmission, sold all the left over parts at the next swap meet for enough to cover the rebuild kit..

I think you would get more out of the bellhousing and shifter then the transmission.. but I'm sure someone out there will want it..

I think there is still someone selling a 4 speed in the mech parts for sale area

Yeah I have the drive shaft that came with it. It was pulled out of a wrecked 68 RR and my old man acctully drove it before he stripped it so I guess if they made it work in a 68 it should work in my 69.

Im still on the fence with the swap, kinda leaning towards swapping in a A500 or A518 and adapting a set of Kilduff lightning rod setup. Or the same setup on a 727 just leaning towards the A518 for the extra overdrive gear

Here is the Kilduff I think its pretty sweet

Old thread but was curios if this bell housing will fit a 69 4 speed, getting ready to purge some parts and will keep it if so
