Built 1973 Satellite project.....looking for experienced advice.

A little background first.

I have a `73 Satellite with the original 400 and 727 trans. I am thinking about dropping in a 1970 F440 HP2 that is putting out aprox 600 hp. The plan right now is to follow it by a TCI super street fighter trans with a gear vendor O/D and a strange engineering S60 rear end with 3.55. If anyone can see problems with this combo or just some recommendations (besides leaving it stock),I'm all ears. Thanks.

If you decide to go with the 440 make sure you keep the original 400. Tuck it away in corner after properly preparing it for storage. Years from now the original number matching motor will be important if you ever decide to go back to original or decide to sell the car and the new owner may want the number matching motor.

Just have fun with your car and enjoy.
 
Good idea to keep the original parts. Now, does any one know if I can economically turn my stock 9.25 rear into something that will stand up to the abuse? Or should I just go with the Dana 60.
 
the original normally was a 8 1/4 and if it has a 9 1/4 some one did the same as I did
Mine came out of a cop car with 3.21 gears

and there may have been a trailer tow package with 9 1/4 but 8 3/4 was more popular
 
Welcome to the forum. What are your plans for the car? Are you going to do serious racing with it, or just street cruising and hitting the strip occasionally? I ask because it's really easy to get in over your head financially trying to over power a car to be more than you need.

As for rears, the 9.25 was never stock on that car. Most got the 8.25 or 8.75. As for Dana 60s, they are awesome rear ends, but a bit of overkill most of the time. A well-built sure-grip 8.75 gives you more bang for the buck.
 
Does any one know of a good,economical vehicle transport service. I have to get my 73 satellite ( rolls but doesn't run) from spring town TX (near weatherford tx) to sanford NC. I appreciate any leads.

I have had a half dozen cars shipped by using "Uship". You go to their site, make a listing of what you have, where it is, and where it's going. Then they post it on their site and the shipping companies bid against each other, lowering the price, until you accept a bid. I had a running car shipped enclosed from Houston, TX to Jackson, MS for $350. I had a truck shipped from the other side of Atlanta, GA to Jackson, MS for $220. Anyway... It's a good method to get shipping done at a minimum cost. They are all insured and you can check each shipper's feedback before accepting their bid.

It's a much cheaper method than getting quotes from random shippers. Plus you can usually get your car quicker.
