4:10 gears are great for brutal acceleration but suck for cruising even at 55

Also useful for 3rd gear standing start burnouts :headbang:

Unless you're running 30" tires like me. Then they're decent on the highway AND allow brutal acceleration.

i have 4:10's with 26" rear tires and an A833 OD im running around 2700 at 70

I had 410's with 29 inch tires and they were fine....currently running 391's with 27 inch tires and I run 3100 at 65 mph....

I am considering 3.54's until Passon sends me a new 5 speed........the 4.10's are killing me on the highway also.

What size tire would be 30" tall on a 8" wide rim?? I have 275/60/15 now and they are 26.5"

when I get an extra 2k i'm getting an over drive, I took it for a 20 mile shake down and my heart was in my throat the whole time, not fun,

I have 28 inch 255/70/15 tires on the back with a suregrip 354 or 355 not sure but I run 70 at 3000rpm. I find that a perfect combo as I just didn't like the 4:10 I had without an overdrive.

LOL! I'm sorry but what sparked this post? Have you never had 4.10's in a car before? Try 4.88's in the daily driver.
An overdrive is a great idea. It'll turn my 4.88's into 3.36'ers real fast.

Never ran 4.88's on the street but did run 4.56's for a time in my 340 Cuda and ran 4.10's in my 66 /6 Belvedere. They both were fun but the 4.56's were a bit much on the highway but it wasn't a highway car. I ran the Belvedere back and forth to work for years and probably ran the 4.10's for a couple of years and didn't care if the 6 was spooling :D

definition of not fun: waiting for something to break, over heat, blow up, fall off ,catch on fire, puke oil/tranny fluid, this was the first time I ever drove it at 55 mph for that long. never had 4:10's before but I like how it goes from zero to step out of the car and put your hands behind your back in 2.0 lol . plus my combo is set up for the 4:10's, car came that way. it's got headers and I was really surprised at the high under hood temp

I run 4.30's with a 30" tall tire and I drive the highway all the time. It does about 3200 RPM at 60 mph and my eng just buzzes along fine at that RPM. Ron

@ 383 man the taller the tire the numerically lower the final gear ratio is so your gears not 430 anymore it's lower number wise

I had 4:10's in a 57 Chevy waaaay back then, loved them, were a little high rpm's on the highway, but tolerable unless going on a long trip, I want a second mopar toy, not a looker or anything of serious value, just a brand-X stomper, a nice old Dart or Baracuda or whatever, bare to the bones, bad paint, sleeper toy for fun, then use the Charger with my....wait for it....wait for it...2:45's and tall tires for cruising, yes, I get over 20mpg easily all the time, wife's even shocked.

Yes I know as thats why I like the tall 30" tire as it works nice at the track and I can cruise at 60 mph. I believe 28" tire is what they use for the real gear ratio. Mine would be more like 3.91's or somewhere around that. Ron
