I have a 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T, 440, 4150 carb on a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with the stock power bulge hood. I tried a 1 1/4" drop base with 3" tall filter then 2 3/4" tall filter but the hood won't close. I think it may be because of the 14" diameter breather. Would a 13" diameter breather work? It appears from this link http://www.nicksgarage.com/aircleaner.htm the stock air cleaner is 13" in diameter.

Anyone out there have a 68-69 Coronet with the same set-up get the hood to close?

Thanks FBBO

On my Charger, I used a 1 1/4" drop base, a K&N 2 5/16 Extreme element, and a K&N Extreme filtered top. This combo gave me the most clearance.

I tried that combo (1 1/4" drop base and 2 5/16" filter) with a Holley Ultra Street Avenger 770 and it won't clear the choke horn with the 2 5/16" filter.

What carb are you using?

Holley 770 Street Avenger. I had to have the entire choke horn milled off though. It was my only option with that intake. There are some pics in my Charger resurrection thread.

Edelbrock Performer RPM, Jegs 1/2" spacer, Holley Ultra Street Avenger 770, K&N 1 1/4" drop base plate (Part# 85-4535), 14" X 3" K&N filter (Part# E-1650), K&N X-Stream Filter Top (Part# 66-1401).

No air horn milling required. No hood clearance issues. I do not have a hood insulation pad.

Chargers must have a little less room than Coronets. That is the setup I wanted to use, but couldn't. If you put some dum-dum/putty on top of the carb stud and shut the hood, how much clearance do you have?

I have plenty of room above the air cleaner nut with the bulge hood. However, judging from the black paint rubbing off the back of the breather top in two places the hood is contacting just a bit. I guess I'll have to remove the 1/2" spacer.
