If you own the Charger 500 or Daytona with this vin number - XX29L9B210748 - I have your a833 4-speed. NOTE - Will only sell/trade to the legit owner of this vehicle. I figured I'd post this in case someone has the car and/or restoring it. Would be a shame not to reunite it with the original car.

Story - Going back 3 weeks.

The tranny on my 68 RR has been whining for a while, and recently the clutch started slipping, so I took the sign from above that now would be a good time to rebuild both. Once the tranny was opened, we saw that the gears were roached. 4th gear had 5 missing teath and strange gear wear through the entire gear set (Car was raced at one time). Best option was to throw in a complete gear set. Usual vendor does not have full gearsets in stock(No input shafts or 3rd gears), and others are asking obscene prices. So since I knew someone cleaning out the shop(Retiring) who had a transmission he wanted to get rid of ...I figured I would buy it, and use it while I'm waiting for parts for mine.

I had him measure the retainer to make sure it fit the bellhousing ... He gave me the vin number (But I thought he said XS), settled on a price, and drove down to pick it up. After a few mintes, of looking it over an BS'ing with him, I took a look at the VN Number. It took a few seconds to sink in, but when I realised what it came from, ... my jaw almost hit the ground.

The tranny is now in the Hemi Roadrunner, and works fine. Shifts smooth, no whining(From what I can tell with the exhaust note as it is) .... so I'm going to leave it in there until my transmission is completed. If I do not find the owner of XX29L9B210748 ... I may just leave it there and have my rebuilt original as a spare. Probably the closest I'll ever come to owning a Daytona or a 500. :headbang:

Too early to be a Daytona so it has to be out of a Charger 500.
It's nice of you to post this...hopefully they can be reunited.

Any chance that you could put up a photo of that vin on the case for the record? I'm not sure if that is a known Charger 500 Vin, but is is in the middle of group of them. I think some folks would love to see it.

I have since confirmed that this is from a Charger 500. I saw a photo of the car in the background of the shop that took the transmission back in the 70's*.

Sorry, but no transmission photo's. I can not seem to upload any photo's at the moment. Just locks up on me.

Besides, I took over 30 photo's from different angles, and none showed the full VIN clearly ... some of the numbers are very faint. I had to take a piece of emery cloth to remove paint/grime form the last 3 digits. Even then, I had to look from a variety of angles to see for sure what those last 3 numbers were. If the owner of this car steps foward, I will do the best I can to make them comfortable that this is the right transmission before driving out or shipping it.

*I do know that the last know location of this vehicle was Long Island, NY.

Sounds like it may have met its demise as a parts car:

This is pretty cool thing you are doing. Mopar Karma will come back to you for sure.

Any remembrance from the photo of any other details of the car like color, etc?

Sorry. Old Black & White photo. Just saw the slop of the rear window and part of the stripe that said "500". There ae now a few folks who knew of the car that are making an effort to find out what happend to it. If it needs to be rescued from the scrap heap, I might just buy it.
