been looking around at some cars and a couple are advertised as tribute cars. is that another name for a clone? thanks
A tribute car is a car (that should be) built to the exact specifications and details of an original.
A clone is something someone simply slapped a stripe and some badges on. Not an exact duplicate.
Tributes are exactly that, respectful. Paying tribute to the originals.
See, now I would say the opposite. Biological clone = exact duplicate. Tribute = respectful homage that may not be a perfect copy.

Though the term slapped together has no bearing here, as any can be slapped together regardless of label.
I agree that anything can be slapped together (I only mentioned slapping on a stripe, but I digress), and it is interesting that you would view these terms in an exact opposite manner. Agree to disagree, I suppose.
To put it simply, IMHO:
If you're paying tribute to something I would hope you're doing the best damn job possible, covering every little detail and ensuring it's perfect.
If you're cloning something, you have the ability to pump out infinite numbers of them...mistakes and all.
