My 1971 426 Hemi Roadrunner with Power Steering: the previous owner had a 440 balancer on it so I just swapped out for the correct balancer and correct crank pulley. Now my Saginaw power steering pulley doesn't line up to the outer crank grove by approx 7/8".
Do I need a different P/S pulley? this one is not a press on style as you can see in the photos.

Looks like the p/s pulley is on backwards.

The extended 'boss' on the pulley should go to the rear, and will move the belt groove forward.

Really is it that simple? I was thinking I needed to swap out to a federal P/S unit?

Wow, nice catch!
Just another example of why this forum kicks butt.....great membership!

It's funny, I pulled the pulley and flipped it but thought way to easy and it didn't look right but it would align

Update - the pulley turned around actually sticks out 1/2 groove to far so this wasn't the quick fix I had hoped for. Any other ideas? is anyone out there using the Saginaw pump and brackets on a 71 426 car or are you all using the Federal P/S?

Does anyone have photos of a 426 with P/S using a Federal P/S pump?

I have a hemi lower pulley for a stock thick balancer - so I am told

Measure the thickness of the Hemi balancer and then subtract the thickness of the 440 balancer and see if that difference is equals what your misalignment is.

It was worth a shot. Just parts and pieces.

Unfortunately, no experiance with a hemi (dammit), but it will take correct brackets/pulleys to get the line-up you need. Maybe you can look up part #s, to check it out. Good luck on it!

MCODECUDA - I know that is where my problem started and yes if i subtract the 440 balancer and pulley from the 426 balancer and pulley it equals my misalignment.
The issue is the P/S is not original and neither is the Alt I believe that are both 440 as well, the Alt I can fix by putting on a dual grove pulley but the P/S has me lost.
I guess the problem could be the crank pulley - I purchased one advertised as "for stock think balancer" so if anyone has a stock thick balancer with a 2 grove pulley I would love to know the thickness of that pulley.
Thanks

The pulley I purchased is the P4510281 to be used with the original thick OEM balancer. I know my water pump housing and pump are correct original 426. today I found on ebay a "66-68 Mopar 426 Hemi Charger GTX Satellite Crank Pulley" that has dimensions that would work perfectly but I am trying to bring this 71 Hemi Roadrunner back to factory and have been told the P4510281 is the pulley I need to use.
every time I think I have this solved it doesn't pan out.

Why not flip the PS pulley? Then measure how much to far forward it is. Measure the thickness of the PS pulley hub. Remove that amount necessary to make it line up. Add a spacer at the front under the nut to make up the difference, done.

I wish - I am trying to do a numbers match restoration.
I think I have figured out the puzzle after many - many hours on the net and on the phone. I will post next week if I am right or if I am wrong.
