'71 up Ralleye Dash Heater Control and Switch question

Howdy!
Am working on '72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring and am swapping from a standard gauge to ralleye gauge package... Now does anyone have a picture of a ralleye dash heater control assembly? It appears the standard gauge package the faceplate and flat and straight, where the ralleye dash has a slight curve out on the left side. Was there a different control assembly? Any pics of just the assembly?

Here's some pics of what I have, it looks like the Dodge and Plymouth also had different heater switches, both are 3 wire but one with a pigtail. When and what models were these two styles available? Any idea where to find replacement switches for either of these units? (see pics) I'd really like the pigtail type blower switch.

Heater control is the same between standard and Rallye dashes and Dodge and Plymouth. In your picture the one on the left is a 73/4 and the right one is a 71/2.

Wiirng code is the same. You could use one harnes into the other matching the colors on the correct prongs on blower lever switch... HOWEVER as you noted, not the switchs.

You can notice how the OFF position changes from one to the other on control switches. Actually maybe control switch plugs match on both switches on same colors disposition, just diff "clicks" disposition.

I guess vacuum lines wouldn't match either ? maybe on underdash vacuum lines plug both match but not on switch assembly... That's just a guess

I agree. I can't account for the wiring however since the fan blower switch is in a different position, it is a different switch. 73 and up is 3502685 and 71-72 is 3431137.
I do not believe they will interchange.
 
yes definitelly blower switch is diff... but wondering if even the CONTROL main switch even getting diff OFF position ( and rest of functions ) harness will meet the prongs on both setups... dunno.

I think it does, trying to remember the 71 harness diagram

Yep, you are correct on the 71-72 and 73-74 control setups, the tough part is finding replacement switches!

It looks like the non-AC equipped cars have a 4 wire switch with 4 positions (Off, Low, Med, High) and the AC equipped cars have a 3 wire switch with 3 positions (Low, Medium and High). The AC cars have another 5 wire plug going to the vacuum actuated controller. The power wire goes to that controller hense the 3 wire switch. The blower on a AC car is turned off through the vent position lever to OFF.

The non-AC (4wire) cars have the power wire going directly through the blower switch.

From aftermarket there are very limited options. All I can find is BWD BL2 for '73-'74 Dodge/Plymouth in a 4 wire with the correct mounting bracket. Assuming looks like a switch for a non AC car is all that is available..

What I ended up doing is getting a NAPA ECH HC203 which is a 3 wire, 3 position switch for a dodge pickup and was able to disassemble the guts and swap it into my '72 Satellite switch, takes about 3 minutes and I will certainly be rebuilding switches again!

Only took a few hours to figure that all out. What do you think? What does a typical guy do with a burnt out switch?

the diff 4 and 3 prongs on lever switch is because the OFF position on heater systems is on Blower lever switch ( 1 input 3 outputs ) while AC got it on the control/function switch.

Once A/C control is turned on on any position BUT HEATER AND DEFF, the lower speed is powered, and directly spliced from lever switch plug to the speeds resistor. This wire will be also the input to lever switch.

When you set MID or HIGH speed, the switch sends power to MID resistor, or straight to blower ( which is dark green, can't recall which is low or mid between light green and tan ). LOW speed still gets power, since is powered straight from control switch, BUT by Ohms law, the power gets lets resistance on system with two parallel resistors ( or no one resistence ) on line.

on HEATER AND DEFROST function, there is no power to lever switch. The control switch feeds the FIXED speed for this function to the resistor plate.

And... that's why you got 4 prongs on resistor plate... low and mid speeds ( resistors ) for A/C and vent, one prong to Heater and deff speed ( resistor ), and one prong is the common output for all, to feed the blower.

As mentioned, the high speed on A/C and vent, runs stright from lever switch and splices into the same line of the resistors plate output

I HOPE sounds clear!!!

NOTE, is not uncommon get the lever switch plug ( on 73 and lates ) melted down, due the poor contacts point into the switch, getting heat and sometimes breaking the prongs plate.
