I have traced down a leak in my PS gear box - it appears to be coming from the high/low pressure hose flange. It's a slow leak but annoying.

The FSM identifies 3 O-rings that are the likely cause. Having researched the perils of removing this flange (the steering center needs to be adjusted afterwards) IF I scribed a line around the flange, removed it, replaced the O-rings and then returned the flange to original position, how far off could it be?

Who has done this repair or can share some insights? :icon_question:

The adjustment (movement) is 'fore & aft' and is very minimal...total allowable movement is less than a 1/4", & minute movements of the piece have drastic swings on the steering.

In your case make alignment marks on the side of the distribution block & steering box before you start. You may get lucky and not need to make any adjustments.

In my case (no leak) I was changing out the distribution block to a later piece for clearance of the header tube. So marking it wasn't going to matter.

With front wheels off the ground, I started the car & ensured wheels were centered. Shut car off then removed distribution block. Changed out block & O-rings and re-assembled everything. Started car to see how I did. Wheels immediately turned hard right. Loosened the bolts enough to slide block fwd 1/8th"(?). Tightened bolts then restarted car. This time wheels went just left of center. (aft turns wheels right, fwd turns wheels left...had to figure that out by trial & error). Shut her down and tweeked it again. Eventually got it true to center.

Don't put the wheels on the ground until you can stop & start the car and have the wheels stay centered. Hopefully this makes sense and is helpful

Dako, I really appreciate the time you took to explain the process, including the excellent picture.

You're welcome. If you look close, you can see I marked mine (fender side of dist. Block) once it was set...I used a Sharpie.
