Hi,

While working on my '71 Charger and searching for parts I am often unsure on what parts I might be able to use from other MOPARs. For example there is someone near me that is giving away Big Block Headers from a '71 Challenger but I am unsure if they will fit. This goes for other parts as well. Like disc brakes, rearends, etc.

Is there a list or website that can help me with this?

Thanks,

Denis

yeah
its called fbbo ..lol
being a fellow 71 b owner,i can tell you
that there are alot of different parts that will fit and work for your car from different years.
many of those parts have certian versions that were available in 71 only.
some of those part versions are hard to find
and expensive when you do find them. (1 year only parts)
so before you start you really have to figure out
how correct/**** you are going to be and what you are after
there is no guide, your best bet is asking away on here
where some of the people who own these cars hang out..

Like Fly said, you can get all your info here.
Headers are the same between E and 66-72 B.
K-frame and front suspension is the same between 70-2 E and 71-2 B including brakes.
The 71-2 B rear housing and axles are wider than pretty much any other car.

Much easier to post a list of what you need.

Easy for some of us to give interchange parts.

Terribly hard to list every part and what interchanges.

in the past 3 years I have bought hundreds of parts for my 71 dodge charger and found there is no easy way to figure it out what fits and what doesn't. I spent hundreds of hours on the internet, restoration web sites and going to car shows. I found myself talking to a lot of people at car shows that know so much more than me, that was very helpful. I would actually take notes after I spoke with someone. I also have found some reference guides with a lot of part numbers too. I agree listing the parts you need would be helpful.

Thanks for the answers. moparmarks answered a fair chunk of what I wanted to know. Here is a list of parts that I am looking at changing.

Front brakes from drum to disc

Brake booster

Rear end

Bucket seats

center console

Steering column

There's probably going to be more but that is all I am looking at for the moment.

Denis

Brake booster 71-4 i believe

Rear end 71-2 b body only

Bucket seats seat is 70 -1, seat tracks 71 only, 72-4 will fit but not correct seat

center console 71-4 the same, 2 diff kinds 4 spd or auto

Steering column 71-2 b body only

There's probably going to be more but that is all I am looking at for the moment.

2 different schools on disk brakes- A- "100% "correct" school needs 71/72 B or 70-74 E or 73/74 A spindles B- "reality" school can use easy to find F/M/J spindles.

Booster- I'm weak in this area as most of mine have had manual brakes.

Do you mean "axle"? They are specific to 71-74 B but 75 to 79 fits, however the 8 3/4 is super hard to find.
70-74 E body is super easy to find and cheap. Only about an inch difference and with those HUGE wheel wells, filling them up is easy.

Buckets- 70-77 B, 70-74 E, even 70-76 A Tracks are 71-74 B specific but E will bolt in and so will 75-78

Console 70-74 E, 71-74 B

Column IIRC is 71-74 B specific, but collars interchange from E.

are you after what is correct?
or what will just fit and work?

Thanks YY1 that is pretty much what I'm after. I have a line on a console shift steering column and ralley dash cluster wiring harness from a '73 Charger for a good price. Nice to know that they should work.

flypaper, my Charger is a base 318 that I plan to clone as either a Super Bee or an R/T, both options having a 440. I am mostly looking to get what will fit and work with the correctness being a bonus if I can find the same deals.

Thanks everyone for your answers. They are going to help as I move along with the project.

Denis

The rallye dash wiring harness and steering column out of a 73 won't work on a 71.

I think they will with some light mods.

You don't really need the whole harness changed, anyway.

Steering column I'm not 100% 0n. What's different besides the crush portion?

I've got a hybrid 74 B/E column going in a 72.

Don't see anything that looks like it won't work.

What am I missing?

I bought this book a little while ago. It has some good information in it. It does have a few errors though.

But the few errors are definitely outweighed by the wealth of information inside.

71/2, 73 and 74 B columns are different. Different couplers.
B and E columns are totally different. 74 B columns require the larger hole found in the 74 B firewall.
70-2 E/A and 70-4 B bucket seats will interchange. 73/4 E/A have soft backs. 70-early 71 B/E/A have the 3-piece backs. Later 71 -72 E/A and later 71-74 B are the same. 70 B seat tracks are 1 year and B only. Won't fit the 71-4 B floor. 71/2 and 73/4 B tracks are different but will work in any 71-4 B. 70-4 A tracks won't fit the 71-4 B floor. 70-4 E tracks will fit the 71-4 B floor but are shorter than the B's
70-2 B/E disc brake are the same. 73-4 E/A are the same and will work on 70-2 B/E but are not "correct".
73 dash harness will work in 71 with some minor mods and using a 73 wiper switch.

I pretty much have all of these parts.

I knew about this book but with the mixed reviews I read I was hesitant to spend the money on it since it seems to start at $70, but I'll keep it in mind.
