Can someone please tell me if their is a difference in these bodies? I'm wanting to build a 67 gtx clone and found a real nice 66 satellite but not positive they are the same. I know most replacement panels are the same but I've been told they are not exactly the same. If their is a difference in them please tell me what they are. Thanks!!

Two head light vs four headlight.

The radiator support is different because of the two vs four difference. Apart from front fenders, all trim, taillights, bumpers, interior pattern and such, they are essentially the same car.

Taillight extensions and trunk are different as well. Front bumper in a 66 doesn't have parking light holes either.

I don't think the core support is different. It's the fenders that carry the different buckets for the quad headlights vs single. Correct me if I'm wrong about the core support....

There are four dimples in the '67 core support for the headlights, and two for the '66s. They are definitely different.

A 1967 Satellite would be the closest thing to start with if you want to clone something into a 1967 GTX. Everything is the same except the twin hood scoops, the 150 mph speedo, the flip top gas cap, the GTX badges, exhaust tips, the trim around the wheel wells and the GTX callout between the back seats.

And in addition to all the body panels, the '67 Satellite has the same tail lights, tail light bezels, grill and interior as the GTX. But if you were starting with a '66 anything or even a '67 Belvedere you'd have find all these things too.

When you pull the fenders off, the headlight buckets come off with the fenders because they are welded to the fenders and not the core support and once the fenders are off, the engine compartment box looks just like all the other 'B' and 'E' body front ends that have been stripped down of all the bolt on sheet metal. None of them have core supports with headlight dimples. If the 67 had 4 of them, then the 66 would at least have 2 for it's single light system and it does not. Also, the core support wouldn't have 4 dimples because it doesn't extend past the inner fender let alone behind the outboard lights......plus the grille and lights extend far enough out in front of the CS that it wouldn't need the dimples.

Man, where's the love for a '67 Satellite as-is? I'm melting! What a whirled, what a whirled..

Andrew, I'm not sure what you are looking for in a car, but you have seen mine, make me an offer and you would be on your way!! My only guess is you want to build something from the ground up and that is cool. Good luck

I actually prefure the single head light look of the 66 with the turn signals in the grill. My vote would be 66 Bel with side trim removed, flip to gas cap installed, 67 Sat interior, GTX scoops and leave the rest alone.

I had to break out my '67 Plymouth FSM to look at the fender and radiator support again...sure enough, the headlight depressions are integral to the fender and not the rad support. Been a while since I've had a '66 or '67 Plymouth "B"-body apart like that!

the front fenders/grill/front bumper/deck lid/quarter extension/tail lights/tail panel/ instrument cluster bezel and the interior are the differences also a 67 tail light bucket will not fit in a 66 - the opening is smaller but like most guys do the gas ax takes care of it.

I really appreciate everyone's input. More differences in the two cars than I thought. Thanks again

I'd say RO23 scoop instead of GTX scoops, but that's just me.....

Front fenders are actually the same, everything else listed is different, but can be changed with the correct bolt on parts.

Technically the fenders are the same, but the welded in headlight buckets are different.

There seem to be a couple dozen spot welds holding the buckets to the fenders, and a lot of them are on the edge of sharply rounded surface, or partially obstructed by other parts of the fender.

A good metal worker with the right tools could swap the buckets.

...and for the record, I prefer the 66 "cowboy pattern" interior over the 67.

The 66 has two rows of cowboy pattern material on either side, where the 67 has one down the center.

...also technically the dash and steering columns are different as are the braking systems and possibly 4 way flashers.

I also believe the wheel lip trim is the same between 66 and 67 as well as between the RL/RH/RP models.

IIRC there were several different molding packages available (especially on Bel II models), and some have both wheel lip and lower body moldings, some wheel lip only.
