Ive had my 69 coronet 4 door for sale sence April. Its a great car. Starts up quick and drives awesome. And sence April ive got a ton of haters! Telling me that my car is basically worthless because its a 4 door.I sold my 2 door coronet 500 to save this car. I fixed it up, and all im gettting is **** on. My mopar family has been here for me my whole life. But now that i have a 4 door mopar im like a bastard child. Ive put it in mopar shows and got nothing but hate. Im selling this car to help out with my wife. She just had surgery and her and I are out of work for a couple of weeks. So i need some cash. But at this point id reather crush it for a few bucks then $4000 just to spite. Ive always loved the super bees and cudas. But owning this car made me feel like im just some kid on the side lines with a pipe dream, as the big boys drive by.

What brings you to FBBO my brother? Are you still looking to sell or did you just want a scaled forum thru which you can vent? I feel for you man but the market for anything is cruel and the truth. I've put a ton of $$ in my car and know the market will **** on me when I go to sell it - if I ever do. It's only worth what someone's willing to pay..... That's the harsh truth of the market... On anything.

Ive been on this board sence 2009. And i know the market is only for the big dogs. But i had no clue the mopar guy spit on anything non-2-door. I love this car. I just need the mony. But not ($2000) dollars bad.

I feel for you brother. I just stopped In at a show as an observer and started talking with a fellow MOPAR man who owns a 69 GTX bought out of a museum. I have a 70 RR. I was told it was a poor man's car, not worth anything w/out the original engine, bottom of the Plymouth line up etc.etc.. Oh, and I would never get my money out of it on a sale.
WHO CARES !! I wish you the best. Sorry about your wife.

In my opinion, anyone who would put down another guys pride and joy, even if it is a 4 door, is just a plain jerk who gets their jollys putting down other peoples cars. Many of these jerks do not even have a car worthy of a second notice. If you can't say anything good, just keep your mouth SHUT!.......................................MO

Metal, it's your car! Don't let anyone mess with on that. Frig em! Besides that's a person that doesn't know the beauty of a 4 door! Like the ease of getting in the back seat!:headbang:

Its not just mopar, any 4 door is a tough sell, a friend of mine has a gorgeous 57 chevy, the car is done so well with such attention to detail it borderlines "over done", he thought about selling it beginning of this season and he quickly confirmed what you are going through right now, a 2 door in that condition would be in the $40k's, now he wasnt expecting 2 door money, but the offers he received were insulting at best, they wouldn't cover what he paid to paint the car.
BUT in the defense of the vintage car market, the 4 door market was the same when he started the project, thats why he bought a solid core car for $3K vs $20K.

I feel bad for the guys that the market changed midstream, another friend of mine bought a grand national about 10 years ago when they were HOT for $22K, he restored it (them cars are easy, carpet, headliner, tires, brakes, soft suspension parts, shocks, and paint} for about $10K, so he was into it for about $30K but it was well worth that at the time, then a couple years ago he wanted to sell it, the market had changed and the car was worth about $18K, he did end up selling it and cried about it for a while, but I look at it this way if in 2005 he bought ford mustang for $30K he would have lost even more....

Sorry to hear about your wife, don't get too discouraged about your 4 door, the good thing about mopars is a lot of part interchange so the car will always hold the value of holding them parts, someone with a 2 door project that needs a driveline, dash, nose, bumpers, etc will still pay for them parts no matter if they came off of a 2 door or a wagon...

I parted out a rust-free, no damage 70 Satellite, 4-door. I had just put a new front=end and brakes on it. Besides being a 4=door, it was green/green.....so nobody wanted it. I parted it out 100%, for about 3 times what my best offer for the whole car was. Lesson learned......mopar people are fickle about minty cars. If it has 2 many doors or some other perceived value flaw, it's deemed worthless. I at least drove it for a year. Which makes me wonder again, as everybody would "thumbs-up" the car on the road....but nobody would buy it.

If it were a statin wagon, I would be willing to bet that you could get 4 large for it all day long, but a 4-door sedan is another story.

Parting it out might be your best option; but is there 4,000.00 worth of parts on it?

I see where the OP is coming from. There's a lot of snobbery in the Mopar hobby. I have the 64 Sport Fury in my avatar. Also have a 69 Dart 340 swinger. When I take the 64 To a Mopar show, all the 68-70 B body guys seem to turn their noses up at it. Especially the Hemi guys. Never wins anything. I go to a all makes show, and I get a lot of positive response. When I go to sell it, it will not bring any where near what a GTX, or Road Runner would bring. Even though it's much more unique, and frankly a much better quality car than the later 60's Mopars. I say that after having my Dart, and a 69 Coronet 500. I also am not a fan of 4 doors. So maybe I'm guilty of a little snobbery myself.

Yea four doors are tough. I almost bought a cool Fairlane 500 but I got talked out of it because by the time I got it running I would have lost money because it was a four door.

Out of curiosity, do you have some pics you can share with us? Do you have it posted on here?

Not me, I love 64 Plymouths! Here's one of my old cars that I think is in Canada now...

I feel you too, man.

I've always loved the looks of the 73/74 Satellites.

I think the front end and RR hood combo is one of the most aggressive looking ever to come from Mopar.

It's also got a LOT of the post 1970 "goodies" as options- high back buckets, slap stick, pistol grip, rallye wheels, cassette recorder, strobe stripes, machine gun tips, HIP colors, etc.

...but it seems like 95% of "other" Mopar guys have an "oh, it's only a 73...ho, hum..." attitude.

I got two words for ya.....F U!

FYI cool cars did not simply stop in 1971.

I also can't believe that there's so much of a disconnect between 1971 and 1972.

Come on, folks, they're practically the exact same car!

I get almost as much disinterest on the 66/67s that I also love.

It amazes me that the 68-70 guys don't seem to care that the unibody is essentially exactly the same.

OK, I'm done now.

Like YY, my favorite car since the 1970s has been the 73-74 Roadrunners. They've always been on the outs with most collectors, but I've never cared. I like what I like, it's my money, and if I'm going to buy something I'm going to buy something I like. That being said, while I have the freedom to make that choice, I also have to be accountable for the outcomes of that choice including knowing my cars will never, ever, be worth what other cars are worth.

The sad truth is four-door sedans have never, and likely will never, have the sex appeal and performance image of two-door coupes. Coupes are what the cool guys drove. Sedans are what Dad drove. On the plus side, four-door sedans get a lot more love than station wagons. :)

All that being said, the most important thing to do when selling a car is to know your market. The market for vintage performance cars is dominated by guys looking for coupes not sedans. However, there is a very large market of vintage police and fire vehicle collectors who have zero interest in coupes but who will pay top dollar for a vintage sedan that's in good condition. Your best bet to get your price is to post your car for sale on the police and emergency vehicle collector sites.

If you are going to part it out, since you are out of work right now, I will touch on another point, there are different ways to part something out. For example I see guys that get $20 for a heater control and guys that get $175 for one that started off in worse shape than the $20 one, BUT they bought a $9 sticker kit, took it apart, cleaned and painted it, then waited for the right person that wanted it. With a simple investment in some maquires 10 and 17, some wenol, steel wool, wet/dry paper, sem and rustoleum paints you can turn an all there car into a good pile of money.

A gentleman I bought some parts off bought a 70' coronet rot box that IMO could not be saved, he paid $1500 for the car (I would not have been so brave} but after restoring, setbelts, dash parts, trim, etc etc etc, he said he was past $5K in parts, the trick was he didnt sell anything with out bead blasting and painting it, he even took all the original hoses off the engine, cleaned them, armorall'd them, polished/coated the clamps, and sold them too!!! He has a huge sheet of cardboard with all the bolts on it, he blasted each bolt, then coated them. Now granted he was taking a lot of time and effort but he said it came out to about $50 an hour CASH... Not too bad...

In my opinion, anyone who would put down another guys pride and joy, even if it is a 4 door, is just a plain jerk who gets their jollys putting down other peoples cars. X2! Could not have said it any better.

When you show or sell a car, you are at the mercy of other peoples' opinion. Very few 4 door sedans have followings.Doesn't make them bad cars, just less desirable.

Screw them. I have a '68 Belvedere 4 door and I love it. And everyone who sees it loves it. There's a-holes and snobs in every walk of life. It sucks that it might not get what you want for it, but if that's the market...

Well said Cornpatch. My uncle used to say that about 5% of the people you run into are just ******** and if you get mad about it you are going to be mad all the time. I'm like Furyous, it used to bother me when I took my '64 Belvedere to Mopar shows that I didn't seem to get any respect from the RR, GTX, Hemi crowd, but I've gotten over it. When I take it to an open show a lot of guys love it and I always get a good response when I'm driving it around.

I saw your pictures in the gallery, pretty cool car!!! Brings back memories of my parents 68 Satellite, remember riding around in it when I was 4 to 6 years old.
