I have a 74 RR that has a non rallye dash vin prefix is RM so it is a RR had a guy tell me that because it didn't have a rallye dash that it can't be a real RR did the make 74 without rallye dash?

He's full of ****.... Rally guages were an option. Road runners started as a base stripper with fixed rear windows, bench seats and a 318 (with dual exhaust) in 73 then went up from there... All the way up to 440/GTX option. You could get almost any option in the book at that time.

For example: mine has a 340 with 727 trans, 355 sure grip rear end, a/c, power windows and power sunroof, ralley guages, bucket seats, dual sport mirrors but no chrome bumper guards... Go figure....Dealer ordered, I'm sure for himself...

Thanks for the info, that's what I figured this guy thinks he's MR. Mopar

I stand corrected.... You specifically asked about 74...

I was thinking of a 73 model I saw with the 318, bench seats, 4 speed and a standard dash.

Or I could be full of ****..

ALL 71-4 RR's came with the Rallye dash, period. So did SSP's. Was not available in Satellites and Sebrings.

I humbly stand corrected....but still......I know what I saw.... RM coded car with standard dash. Next time I'll take a picture .... I swear!

Keep in mind people have been swapping parts in and out of these cars for almost 50 years. Also keep in mind that dash fires have wiped out a lot of clusters during that time. Lastly, keep in mind that standard clusters have always been a whole lot less than a Rallye unit.

So most likely, someone had to replace the original cluster and all they could get, or afford, as a Standard rig, so that's what went in.

i know nothing about these gen b bodies will a standard cluster and ralley cluster fit the same dash assemble ?? fit the same hole ?

that makes it easy , on a 68-70 you have to change the whole dash assemble , makes ralley gauge swaps alot harder
Yes, fairly easy really, hardest part is locating decent Rallye clusters and dash harnesses. There were subtle changes to both Rallye and standard clusters & dash harnesses each of the four years. I’ve made the conversion a couple of times, reconfiguring the harness to suit.

car 2.jpgcar.jpgI'm assuming someone did change dash heres the vin# definitely a RR also have the fender tag

im not too familiar with the 71-74 bodies, but it seems to me that that VIN plate looks a bit odd...

I'll buy that... Makes perfect sense...

Yes they check out I'm 100% she's a Real RR, I was just questioning the dash, at some point someone must have changed out the dash for whatever reason

Ron,
All 74 Road Runners should have come with a rallye dash. That being said - Maybe the rallye cluster failed at some point and the previous owner installed a standard cluster. Might be some wiring issues with that but could be done.

Problem with these cars is that the VIN tag is attached to the dash assembly - and the whole dash assembly can be removed from one vehicle and placed in another. You said you have verified the body stampings on your car? If the stampings on the radiator support and the upper cowl match your VIN - then you should be good to go.

Scott.

Update: spoke to the guy I got the car from, he said his son had sold the rallye dash and before I got the car he installed the non rallye from another car he had, last night I looked under the dash and saw where he cut and spiced into the harness, mystery solved

I sold the Rallye dash that came with my car, but installed another one. I knew I would be installing an aftermarket stereo and hated to cut up a perfectly good cluster.
